VERY stiff but warm
I’ve been wearing Danner boots for about 30 years. If they come from Portland, they have never let me down. These boots are extremely stiff and big. Not like the Acadias and Go Devil boots I have owned in the past. I’ve walked quite a few miles in them so far... no issues with hot spots or blisters. The lugs are very deep and work well in the snow without crampons. The 400g insulation works as it should. I wear smart wool socks so if I do overheat a bit, so any moisture gets wicked off my feet. I’m not a fan of the laces. They remind me of chuck taylor laces... flimsy. I’ll replace those with Kevlar. I believe that a couple of tins of mink oil and a good break in period will make these my favorite winter boots.
Pros:
- Quality leather, great insulation, nice deep lugs on the sole
Cons:
- Very stiff- needs a good breaking in, laces are flimsy
Best Used for:
- Mountaineering, hunting, hiking in adverse weather
