Really great quality - mounting holes not for all Savage rifles with round receiver long action

by vinh, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on July 31, 2024
I purchased this expecting it to fit out-of-the-box on my Savage Axis long action rifle since that model has a round receiver. The mount itself does align very well with the round receiver, but only two of the four mounting holes on the DNZ mount lines up with the four factory-drilled holes on the Savage Axis. My fix was to mount the scope mount to the rifle using the two front mounting holes and then drill and tap 2 new holes on my rifle's receiver. I had to purchase the right drill bit and tap size as the mounting holes on the Savage rifle is of a thread size that is common only in the firearms world (8x40). I also had to purchase new mounting screws as the ones that came with the DNZ scope mount did NOT fit the factory-tapped mounting holes on the Savage rifle.
Despite all the hassle (and I realize some gun owners may have to go to a gunsmith to do what I was able to do at home with some hand tools), but I was happy with the result and thought it all rated 4 stars overall.
Pros:
  • Curve of the mount fit perfectly on Savage round receiver
  • High quality, one-piece metal construction
  • Perfectly fits my 30mm scope
Cons:
  • Doesn't fit Savage Axis even though the rifle has round receiver
  • Required gunsmithing to fit to Savage Axis
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • long distance shooting
Would recommend: Yes

great quality. reqyired a little drilling for Savage Axis

by vinh, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on July 23, 2024
This scope mount doesn’t fit the Savage Axis right out of the box. It required drilling and tapping two new mounting hokes on the barrel of the rifle as only only two of the four mounting holes on the mount could be lined up at a time with the factory drilled holes on the rifle. However, with a bit of drilling and tapping, the mount does fit properly on an Axis and provides the 29moa cant that I needed for long range. Quality is very nice.
Pros:
  • Quality
  • good with drilling and tapping
Cons:
  • doesnt fit all savage round top tifkes. need drill and tap for savage axis
Best Used for:
  • long range shooting
