If you are looking to build a retro GAU-5A/A or CAR-15 this stock combo from ACE is as good as they get for the price. I ordered one from Retro Rifles at twice the price and it never shipped. This kit comes with the original style lock ring(not a castle nut) and 2-position extension tube.

Overall, the stock appears to be well made. However, there should be some additional fine touches applied before leaving the factory. It appears that there is a piece of aluminum inside the stock, which is not not smoothed out and leaves gouges on the buffer tube every time it is extended or collapsed. Additionally, the rubberized coating on the stock is soft and scratches too easily. The anodization of the buffer tube is too dark of a black and a bit too shiny and looks nothing like the Vietnam era flat dark grey. If these issues were corrected, it would be well worth the money.

This is as close to an original CAR stock that you can get for the $$$$. High quality and not some junk.

The buttstock and its coating is great. These sell alone for not much less from the actual manufacturer in Taiwan and that is only painted (as well as being out of stock). The proper coating is worth the extra money alone.

Otherwise, what is depicted in the photos is not what is shipping as of this review.

The actual receiver extension is black instead of the proper grey color (has proper two position at least).
The backplate as well as the spanner nut is also a black color instead of grey.
The screw and nut of the release also appear black oxided instead of parked because it had zero prep before submersion in the bath.

All in all it was a low effort. If you can't get the extension stripped and re-anodized, you can go with Norrell's molycoating. But if the proper color matters to you, you probably already knew that....

Still earns its 4 stars because its your single source for the actual buttstock unless you want to play with plastic coatings, and is at least functional.

Good for a retro build. I put this next to an original and it is really close in my opinion. The spring and buffer are ok and should work with basic builds. Have only had this for a month but seems to be good quality.

The extension tube has a poor exterior finish, appears like course sanding marks prior to anodizing. There is a little too much play between stock and tube.

Perfect for your retro clone . It feels and looks like the original but at a fraction of the price. Currently on my xm177e2 build

Nice product, tight very little wobble, lock up very positive, great quality. Heavy (thick) plastic coat, little to shiny but should do excellent job for protection from abrasion and scuffing. Buffer tube is excellent quality.
