WR's Review of DPM Walther PDP 4in/4.5in/5in Captured Version Mechanical Recoil Reduction System

Installed in Walther PDP 5" match polymer frame.
I highly recommend as long as you use this product with the correct expectation. Walther pistols in particular have a high bore axis which leads to a very snappy recoil pulse. The weight and design of the factory recoil spring/guide is fairly heavy to rapidly decelerate the slide's rear travel and rapidly return it into battery. The pistol's design; especially coupled with the use of the 4" compatible spring being used in a 5" barrel's slide, causes the muzzle to dramatically rise above the target "snap" then force the muzzle below the target on return. This amounts to an up and down bobbing of the muzzle before follow-up shots can be executed.
This product uses multiple springs of different weights to help smooth that process. It doesn't reduce the recoil by a perceptible level, but it does make the recoil pulse feel smoother by not snapping the muzzle above then below the point of aim with each shot. This has allowed me to increase my accuracy for follow-up shots.
It does make the recoil pulse feel different so it requires some adaptation if you shoot a lot. But overall I feel that it has been worthwhile and have recommended this to others I know that have PDP model pistols.
Pros:
  • Smoother recoil pulse, steel instead of plastic guide, more accurate follow-up shots
Cons:
  • Potentially unmet expectations for some.
Best Used for:
  • Managing the feel of the recoil pulse, not reducing it.
