Marsha Creech's Review of Duramag 5.56mm/.223/300BLK Crimped From 30 Round to 10 Round Aluminum Magazine

I originally bought two for a friend and his new build. I received them, took them over to him and we began loading our magazines for a shoot. We got to these.....airsoft like magazines. First and for most, We could not for the life of us get a full 5 rounds in them. It seems they just haphazardly crimp the magazines stopping the follower from taking full capacity. I personally live in a free state so these 5 round fake magazines are new to me. There is no point. You have the full length of a ar-15 magazine with 1/6th the capacity. You have all the problem prone shooting with a full length magazine....but 25 less rounds. Who asked for these? no one. But all that aside, They are some of the worst quality magazines I have ever held. If these are Aluminum then I am a monkeys uncle. Every single magazine I own is Aluminum. They get dent and dings when dropped but are usually fine. My friend shot the only 4 rounds it would hold then dropped the mag on the ground. A large chunk broke off the bottom of the mag sending the spring flying out. I have no clue what in the heck kind of Aluminum this is. In my opinion....it is a powdered metal of some kind, if not just cheap pot-metal. I literally broke one of the teeth that hold the bottom plate off with my fingers. Having had enough of this BS, we tore the second magazine apart. The follower appears to be some type of ABS plastic, that is at best paper thin. I broke it in half with my hands, with little to no effort. These are cheaper than chinese cheap. I will NEVER buy another duramag, and I am making it my mission to discourage people from buying them. "What magazines are good?" I will ALWAYS reply "Anything is shootable but duramag". I recommend ANYONE that shopping these....please dont. You will not have fun. I will eat the cost. But I am begging no one else make this mistake. They are low quality, poorly assembled, and just a insult to anyone that enjoys their firearms. Please go to brownells and pick up a couple, for the same price you can get at least usable magazines, Aluminum or polymer.
Pros:
  • It has a orange follower
Cons:
  • everything
Best Used for:
  • An example of what not to buy.
