I own a Savage model 10. It's a beast. The big bull barrel makes it front heavy so it's useless to use a sling with it. This pack is my answer. Once in the pack the weight gun is not an issue. I hiked 6 miles with it last week for fun to prepare for a hunt in Wyoming and no problems.
I think a...

The hip belt is NOT wider at the place it connects to the bag. At least not the one I got. Mine has a flimsy 1 inch webbing sewn into the bag and does not look like it will last. interestingly, All the video reviews I saw showed a tapered (as in It...

Eberlestock has done it again with a more compact pack for hunters and outdoor aficionados. Besides a well built pack using the best materials, this backpack has storage and convenience strategically placed everywhere, but not so much to become a distraction.
Pros:
MOLLE straps everywhere you'd need them to make it modular, additional clips, straps, and anchors tucked away, yet accessible in the right places, and even hidden goodies like a stowaway meat carrier if you like to harvest your animal in the field. The expandable cenral compartment is a great way to insert a rifle scabbard if you need to walk and stalk hands free for an extended distance. I was worried this compartment would make everything unbalanced, but the designers made sure to add enough internal MOLLE anchors to accommodate any size gun. The hydration bladder/hose system is also very sturdy and mold resistant. The back padding is now onboard with some of the major backpacking pros that build well padded and ventilated back contact area. No more pulling of a sweat-soaked bag only to have to put it back on and continue to sweat when you resume your hike. The shoulder straps are size adjustable with plenty of anchors, straps, etc.
Cons:
Shoulder strap padding is not sufficient to handle the added weight of a gun or an unexpected heavy load. The pack can however take on a heavy load without breaking or tearing, which is a saving attribute in light of this shortcoming.

Great pack! Space gets tight when gear is added. Mediocre bladder. Versatile and lightweight. Comfortable even on hot days. Great to add scabbard for short hunting treks. I would recommend this pack for day trips only. Very durable
