Most Helpful Positive Review Superb optical clarity at the expense of weight (and looks).
The much revered Elcan Specter, has gone on a diet and saved a few ounces (about 5oz) by losing the 1x fast switchable de-magnifier, and the backup sights. Worth the tradeoff? Not exactly. At 18oz, it's still a beast, and in comparison to it's close competitor, the venerable Trijicon ACOG, it is ...

Most Helpful Negative Review What a let down
I never write reviews on items unless there excellent or terrible. This Elcan is just a let down the illumination is not day light bright even in the slightest and the full reticle box only lights up half way so with the cross it just goes to the half way point and stops there it bleeds all over the...

Elcan os4x

by BIG LOU, from NC, United States Written on May 13, 2020
Great optic, glass is crystal clear, reticle is easy to use. Pretty heavy but seems to be super durable. Took it to the range three times and smacked it around a bit, threw my rifle on the table to see if it would hold zero, it did.

CANADIAN GREATNESS ( CX5855 MODEL )

by CHRIS, from NH, United States Written on September 27, 2019
OK,

So it doesn't have the flip between 1-4, for me its not a big deal here's why your saving about $700 bucks between the two models ( ABOUT THE COST OF AN AIMPOINT T-2 ) and the only difference is the flip switch. Its the same housing, NVG compatibility, sight adjustment etc. Mine came with the Kill flash installed it does look pretty big on top of a 5.56 AR I will be honest... but the glass is crystal clear and sighting it in was an absolute breeze all functions are tactile and it feels like quality. For under a grand you can get an amazing fixed 4x which is less than an ACOG generally. Only gripe is eye relief is a little unforgiving but once you figure out where you need to mount in regards to cheek weld its not a problem. I have no issues engaging targets within 7 yards and getting a good sight picture. Also I bought the CX5855 model because frankly I liked the reticle better and I don't feel the extra $222 dollars is worth the chevron model. I must note that I bought this model many for the name and price it was an Elcan for under a grand its not my only optic I have Eotechs, Aimpoints, PA, Holosun. This sight serves a specific purpose for a specific upper, so the 1-4 capability was not a must. if your looking for a fixed 4x this should be in your purview. Oh and don't get caught up in the its meant for a 62 grain projectile I shoot tons of wolf .223 and this thing works fine.
Pros:
  • absolute quality, crystal clear glass, NVG capable
Cons:
  • eye relief
Best Used for:
  • any lawful purpose

Best Scope for price

by Sammy, from MD, United States Written on August 19, 2019
It is a awesome optic very durable and easy to mount quality of glass is superb if you are looking for a good quality scope that is rigged, durable, and heavy duty go with the Elcan Spectre 4xos, I also have a Trijicon acog but this one looks very operator and bada**, the chevron reticle system is superb and looks like a acog but you can illuminate the chevron whenever you want or illuminate the entire reticle mine also came with flip up covers on both the front glass and rear glass! Overall it is a great system a true bang for your buck thanks to optics planet and there discount codes to save you money!!!
Pros:
  • Hunting
  • combat
  • target shooting
Cons:
  • Reticle hard to see in dark settings
Best Used for:
  • Recreational and professional use

Hard to find one better for the price

by Spider, from SD, United States Written on March 11, 2016
I bought one about one month ago and due to the weather, I just now got around to mounting it on a fn 2000. I feel that this scope is perfect for this rifle due to the inspection port cover flips up and stops about 1/4 from the glass and the eye relief is seemingly right on for me. The finish is durable and markings for various functions are large and easy to understand. The reticle lights up nicely as you dial the brightness that one needs. The triangle is sharp and clear even when lite. The whole reticle is nicely done. I did notice that when rotating the rotary switch clockwise that there are 4 levels of brightness as marked but if rotated past the highest marking there is one more level of brightness that lights up the reticle even more. When rotating in the other direction, lighting up the chevron, between the 1st and 3rd marking, there is no 2nd level of brightness marking. The battery cap has a fixture for a capture wire but none is provided. No caps for the lens are provided either. All in all, this scope provides all that I was looking for even if it needs to go on a diet. This scope is mounted on an A.R.M.S. and fits very tightly on the fn rail to the point of pushing hard against the two levers to finish mounting it, however when the scope is fitted to a Rock River rail its too loose for me. I am going to save up for another.
