Gen Lee's Review of Elcan SpecterTR Tri 1-9 x Rifle Scope 33 mm

Elcan optics have a reputation as being indestructible and I can certainly believe it by the weight and feel. While I have not put this optic through the paces of hard use to verify that claim, the features alone on this optic I believe justify the price point. This is the only optic I’m aware of that has a quick switch between 1/3/9X and the feature works beautifully. The transition knob on the left side is butter smooth. You won’t be struggling with it when hands are wet or slippery and there is a strong, satisfying engagement at each setting. I was expecting a firm feel on that knob and was surprised by the real thing, but on reflection I think they got that right. The illumination knob is on the right and has multiple levels of brightness. One feature not highlighted, that I really like, is that at 1x there is a “red dot” but at 3x and 9x the entire crosshair is illuminated showing all your holds. I was expecting it to only have a red dot even at those levels, so that was an unexpected surprise and an awesome feature. Every part of this optic feels like it was built for the professional soldier in mind. However, I would also consider this an excellent hunting optic for a high-stress predator hunt where you may need different optic settings in a moment. A lot of people scream at the price of this optic, but considering the functions and quality (and it comes with excellent lens covers AND rugged mounting solution which together could cost hundreds separately) I would actually say this is a fair priced optic and you certainly get a high value for the money. A few cautionary notes might be, the eye relief is a bit narrow so you’ll have to play around with the optic’s placement to be comfortable in a variety of shooting positions. Also, this is a larger optic for the max magnification setting. I think that’s part of the “indestructible” tradeoff.
