Seth's Review of EOTech GPNVG Ground Panoramic Night Vision Goggle

Scenario: You have a warrant to serve on a family member who might be in one of 6 buildings across 3 properties in a very small town out in the desert. You do your homework, and identify who lives in these 6 houses. One of the occupants has a record for having attended the police academy, but upon further research he was decertified, and prosecuted for reckless discharge of his duty weapon, and has other weapons charges. Now you need someone in the weed watching these houses as the entry teams go in. With the 90+ degree field of view officer safety is greatly enhanced. Image clarity is among the best available. This means less officers in the weeds, and much faster acquisition of any potential targets. We need eyes on and around every house or outbuilding on every lot. These fit the bill! It's a lot less like looking through toilet paper tubes. From the proper distance the whole house can be visually covered. Ambient light does not mess with these as badly as with cheaper models. These features can and will save lives. I had guide a team in from behind the main roads and these NODS were just awesome. Sadly I had to stay out in the weed and watch. Actually that was fine with me. We had to surreptitiously enter right underneath an industrial facility's security, and surround this property. We had a criminal ex-cop with multiple weapons charges. Everyone knows everyone, so one phone call and our guy could be gone with the wind, or his ex-cop som starts shooting at people again. The field of view with these is about 45% of what it is without NODS. Close focus is kind of poor. We can flip these up and use a monocular to negotiate the arroyos. Once set up we had eyes on everything. The target subject fled out the main road and was quickly apprehended. The main goal, no one got hurt! These have their specific purpose, and it's basically wide angle observation from a moderate distance. Do you need these in the city? I don't know. A tiny hamlet full of basically outlaws way out in the boondocks? YES! Absolutely YES! They KNOW you do not belong there. If one of them sees you, every one of them will know you are there. I was immensely impressed with these. I am just glad I got to use them without having to pay for them. The old adage, "If you don't know the area, hire a guide". For the right clients, I work cheap. When you are going into a rural area homestead occupied by armed people with poor judgment, don't take any chances. Take these instead. You can't imagine what this place looked like in the day time, let alone at night. It's like a junk yard with house and trailers strewn about. There are burned out buildings, burned out cars, piles of junk appliances, and thick brush all around the village. Property crime rate is over 2x the national average, but no known murders within the past 20 years, and we kept it that way. It' one heck of a tool!
Pros:
  • image quality
  • >2x field of view.
  • Less noise
  • Good ambient light abatement control
  • With an adapter, great depth of field.
  • Great light amplification!
  • Good peripheral vision.
  • Ability to visually cover a wider area.
Cons:
  • price
  • A bit bulky, but, these do have their place.
  • close up focus is not very good.
  • Kind of a pain to refocus everything
Best Used for:
  • Military & LEO, including court officers.
  • Hunting? Maybe. $$$
Would Recommend: Yes
