Most Helpful Negative Review Disappointed
Easy to set up however the pixels are fuzzy. By decreasing the intensity the sight picture clears but is harder to see. Compared to an ACOG I'm quite disappointed. Pros: easy to set up, uses common batteries Cons: blurry sight picture

My first Holographic sight so I was a bit concerned as to how I would like it given the expense. However, I now cannot even consider doing without it. It has made shooting my AR a lot more fun. Looking to buy a second one soon.
Pros: Easy to set up Accurate out the box, Co witness with my Iron sights
Cons: None right now
Would recommend: Yes

Eotech 557

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on November 3, 2010
I recently purchased the Eotech 557 AR version, and I am completely satisfied. Fast and easy CQC target acquisition, as well as long range target acquisition.

Unless you are shooting at a very close target the red dot is clear, but up close i.e. 30ft or less the red dot is a bit fussy.
Pros: Fast target acquisition
Cons: Red Dot reticle fussy at up close targets

Tactical Home Run

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on September 15, 2010
Excellent optic. Great for use with night-vision/magnifiers. Buttons are easily accesible on the side. Although a bit bulky, the 557 is built like a tank. My only real gripe is that the drop points blur together somewhat unless using a magnifier. Lithium batteries rock.
Pros: Durable, NV compatible, Tons of Settings
Cons: Size, Weight, Reticle drop-points not terribly sharp
Would recommend: Yes

I have used Eotech since 2003. Im a POST Firearms instructor in Louisiana and recommend Eotech systems to all of my SRT guys. Very fast, very tough. It is not a precesion site it is a CQB site. Works great with night vision and it worked great on top of my M249.
Pros: Fast
Cons: None

Great Site - But don't get excited about the free cover

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on March 24, 2009
This is a great product. Easy to use and set up. My only complaint is that the scope coat cover that ships with this item is made for the 557 with the 3x magnifier. So it doesn't fit. And since opticsplanet doesn't carry the correct one don't expect to get this problem resolved (actually don't expect them to return your calls either).
Pros: Large screen, easy to look through
Cons: Free cover is not made for the scope
Would recommend: Yes

Amazing weapons sight

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on March 8, 2009
This weapon sight is one of those technological advances that you wonder how you ever did without. You can put the reticle on the target faster with this sight than any I have seen. The quality of the unit is outstanding. It would have to be for our military branches to use it. The reticle on the 557 has four dots that are part of a ballistic drop compensation (BDC) system. They actually appear as almost a vertical line unless you turn the brightness down some, which is easy to do. The sight installs in seconds and is so easy to use, you may not need the instructions. The one that OpticsPlanet sent me was manufactured a month ago and was in a hard plastic case which was very nice. These sights will have some marks on the bottom from being mounted on a testing jig at EOTech, so do not think they have been mounted on a weapon if those marks are present. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants the best regardless of price.
Pros: Durability, speed of target acquisition, waterproof to 33 ft, AA batteries.
Cons: Reticle dots not as easy to differentiate as I would like.
