Ups and downs - EOTech Vudu 1-10x28mm Rifle Scope, 34mm Tube, First Focal Plan

There are not many good reviews for this scope, the few on YouTube give glowing reviews but they don’t mention many downsides. I own multiple lpvo’s along with regular scopes from different manufacturers like sig, vortex and leupold to name a few. This review is of the FFP SR5 MRAD, FDE model.

The good. Japanese glass that is very clean, scope looks great this color is very nice light tan not to shiny not to dull I would say it’s flat but not matte that seems very durable, couple drops and not a scratch, my sig msr would of already been scratched, Only time will tell. The turret set up and quality is great, locking top, capped side, good set up for a radical with drops. The FFP SR5 MRAD radical is good at 10x. The button illumination is very nice because the on button starts it at whatever brightness you left it at and auto off feature is great, these batteries die in my other scopes all the time because of the lack of this feature. The biggest advantages this scope has is it’s very lightweight and compact for what it is, seems very durable by a good manufacturer with what seems like a life time warranty and it has the least exposed scope body I have ever seen when looking throw it.

The Cons. The minimal scope body should make running Both eyes Open at 1x great if 1x didn’t have the a very noticeable fish bowl effect, I got instantly dizzy the fist time I tried walking around with both eyes open. I’m not saying it’s unusable but it’s not great. The reticle at 1x is mediocre the eotech circle is the only thing useful at 1x, the center point can disappear easily because it’s so tiny unless illuminated. The one thing the YouTube reviews nail is the not daylight bright illumination. In lit rooms it’s fine, the moment you step outside into the sun the illumination disappears and so does the lit center “dot” especially on dark targets. The 10x has a very tight eye box and eye relief, the bottom drops get fuzzy with the smallest amount of movement, how often are you using the extreme drops, most likely never, but is very tight and the whole picture will black out with minimal movement. Some scopes you can still see the illumination even when the scope goes black because of the eye box which is nice when running both eyes open at 1x, but not on this scope it disappears. I don’t know if that because it’s FFP, I don’t own the one to compare it to I sold the one I had. Everything I have that illuminates is SFP. Cheap scope caps that are not even flip up.

Conclusions. I don’t blame eotech for most of this scopes cons, I think this is a result of a 10x magnification range in this size and package or the 10x range in general. It is a great quality scope decent reticle, could you over come it’s flaws? Sure, your mileage may vary. For me I returned it because I think the 1-10 range pushes optics to far and makes what should be an excellent scope into an ok at everything but not the great at anything, scope. This has the potential to be a great scope by an amazing manufacturer. For me I believe 8x is the highest I would go with the least amount of compromise. This is Probably why our military chose a 1-8 vortex for the Sig Spear, rather then their 1-10. I have never seen vortex 1-10 and briefly used the sig msr 1-10 ffp. The only thing I remember the from the sig was at 10x the tight eye box and it got dark and slightly cloudy, but is also 1/3 the price and I didn’t think it would survive my scar 17 at that price point. I didn’t have them side by side to compare and I’m going off of memory. The vudu 1-10 is a good scope, But the optical range was too compromised for me. At its max and min.
