Joshua Wood's Review of Federal Premium Syntech Defense 9mm Luger 138 Grain Segmented Hollow Point Centerfire Pistol Ammunition

Ok I was skeptical at first because ive never been a fan of a round that loses weight because normally that means loss of penetration. However Federal is the first that im aware of to make the projectile weigh more than what you normally see on the market. The fact that this round weighs 138 grains and not 115 grains or less i believe is what makes this round stand out from the others. The 1 con i have found is this stuff WILL NOT work reliably in a short barrel pistol. I tried it in my Canik TP9SF Elite (4.2in barrel) and it worked likenit was supposed to. Then i tried it in my Springfield Armory XD Mod 2 Subcompact (3in barrel) and it became a FMJ basically. So speed is definitely a factor and it being heavier you need more speed than the others of the same type on the market. A YouTube reviewerbis who got me to give it a go because he claimed he was dropping full sized Feral Hogs with 1 shot and i believe him. This stuff will make a threat have an awful day. Not only is there a 100+ grain base of the bullet deep in the target but there is also going to be 3-4 decent sized fragments or petals in the target aswell. I fully believe if you are skeptical about thiw ammo if you gave it a try you would be a believer like me. I havent tested it through any kind of barrier except some clothing so im not sure how it would hold up against something like a windshield or wall or something of that nature but it does say Syntech Defense not Syntech Offense and in my book if I'm shooting through a windshield or a wall I'm no longer playing defense im playing offense. I do wish they used nickle played brass. I wish more manufacturer's would start making ammo in the 135-138 grain weight for 9mm.
