Most Helpful Positive Review Good choice
After looking into cost of these things, one has to compromise and set boundaries. I chose this unit specifically because it uses AAA batteries, commonly found anywhere and dirt cheep compared to alternatives. Being first generation, it has its obvious limits and flaws but it does work. It is ver...

Sweet little NV Monocular.

by , Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on December 4, 2021
I live in L.A. near a golf course and I get Raccoons,Skunks,Possums,Golfers, Squirrels,Cats & Dogs coming across my front yard and backyard. My street isn't super lit up at night and it's very dark in my backyard so with this I can see them clearly at night and one night when the police were arresting someone down the block I could see them clearly as if they were standing right in front of me. I highly recommend this item to anyone looking into NV for the streets or country or mountain living needs.
Pros:
  • Clarity & Awesome Push Botton Turrets
  • Worked Great in the pitch dark
Cons:
  • None

Firefield Nightfall 4X50 Night Vision Monocular

by Jack, from MT, United States Written on June 9, 2020
I purchased this product to be able to see the Wildlife in my field at night. The monocular is powered by three AAA batteries. I was very disappointed in the performance of this device. It was like swimming in a pond full of pond scum. Everything was a blur. You could see a tree but not make out any branches or leaves. The distance was limited to about 50-75 yds. It was next to useless for my needs. I tried it in the closed confines of my garage & it was much better as the distances were less. I could see the shelves & items on them, but still could not determine what they were. It certainly was not what Buffalo Bill had in the movie Silence of the Lambs. A waste of money. I read the four star reviews on this product before I purchased it & strongly disagree. Save your money or go to a Generation 2 device.

Firefield Nightfall 4x50 Night Vision Monocular

by Steve, from FL, United States Written on June 5, 2020
Unfortunately, I am very disappointed by this product. My concerns include the following:
1. upon opening the box, I found the packing to be very poor. The unit was exposed to the air and not protected for shipping damage.
2. the provided directions are HORRIBLE! They contain a diagram with parts labeled incorrectly, no directions for battery replacement, and extremely poor operation directions.
3. The quality of the product is not what I expected. This might be a function of the cost, however, being a beginner at night vision, I have no basis for comparision. What I do know is that using this unit does not provide me with the results I expected.
Pros:
  • low price
Cons:
  • cannot use for intended purpose
Best Used for:
  • Paperweight

First Night Vision Purchase.

by James, from OK, United States Written on April 6, 2020
I have always wanted to get into night vision but it always seemed very intimidating because of the cost and my complete unfamiliarity with it. I decided to finally pull the trigger on one when I saw this Entry level Gen 1 monocular on sale I figured I would try it out. Takes 2 AAA batteries(not included) and it’s ready to go. With the IR light on it you can see in complete pitch black areas. I would say this monocular is perfect for some nighttime hog hunting or anything els you needed to do where you are fairly stationary. You can get your image nice and crisp by using the focus rings on the front lens and the fine tuning it using the one on the eye piece. It seems built pretty solid and over all I am very happy with the purchase. My only complaint is the adjustment rings are really easy to turn so once you get it focused for whatever application you are using it for try not to accidentally turn them.
Pros:
  • cost
  • Sturdy
  • Entry level
Cons:
  • None for me
Best Used for:
  • stationary hunting situations

Outstanding NV Monocular for the price

by Christopher, from GA, United States Written on March 9, 2020
Outstanding price for such a great NV Monocular. Can easily identify and clearly see objects out to around 150 yards. On a full moon, the distance would be closer to 190 yards. The built in IR light is adequate and provides clarity in total darkness. I use it for coyote hunting over small fields and food plots and the IR light produces good "eye shine" on predators while scanning. The monocular arrived quickly and is easy to use. I'm using rechargeable AAA batteries and they are producing excellent run times. If you want an excellent entry level NV monocular, this is the one for you. I'm really happy with it.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Clarity , field of view and ease of adjustment .
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Night hunting and observation

My First NV Monocular Review

by Q671, Verified Owner from GU, United States Written on August 6, 2018
Simple to operate and works well if you are viewing from a static position outdoors. IR flashlight is effective for low or no light but somewhat limited range; 50 yards. However, with some ambient light, I could easily see across a 100 yard open field at night with surprising detail. Thought I could use this if the power went down in the house but was mistaken. Maybe too much magnification, not sure. Best use so far is outside of the house...
Pros:
  • Simple to operate
Cons:
  • Static position viewing only
Best Used for:
  • Outdoor use to 100 yards
Would recommend: Yes

Decent optic for the price

by Brandon, from PA, United States Written on May 1, 2018
I purchased this optic as an “demo unit” sale for 97.00 dollars. For that money it can’t be beat. Easy to use and has a lot of focus adjustment between the two lenses. Obviously this is a gen one product and is more of a low light optic than anything but the IR light is pretty strong. Overall clarity once adjusted is pretty good out to 150 yards.
Pros:
  • good value
  • Simple to use
Cons:
  • Focus adjustment very loose
Best Used for:
  • Night spotting

Budget night vision

by Steve, from LA, United States Written on April 28, 2018
This was my first purchase of any type night vision. After many days conducting research for night vision, that would actually work and not be a toy. Firefield Night Field was and is a winner. Great entry level, but I presently have no intentions on upgrading. This night vision serves exactly the reason for purpose I needed for home security, perimeter surveillance and wild life observation. Is it a $3,000 piece of night vision, no. Does it work, yes.
Pros:
  • Price and warranty
  • Price, quality construction, warranty.
Cons:
  • non
Best Used for:
  • Home and personal defense
  • Home and personal security

Night vision Monocular

by LL, from MI, United States Written on June 16, 2017
Nice piece! I bought this due to a recent wind caused 7 day winter power outage wishing I had this at the time. There was a bit of looting in my neighborhood and this would have come in handy. The price is affordable and it is of good quality outside of some small blackout spots(Similar to unnoticeable diamond flaws that aren't noticeable to the naked eye)during actual use. It's also light weight compared to those 8 lb behemoths of yesteryear. It has a screw in camera mount receptacle(female) on the bottom. Now all I need is to find one of those(males) that will allow me to mount this Monocular to my SG's Picatinny rail.

Clear and bright

by JO, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on February 17, 2017
This device is a great value. I am military and familiar with much more sophisticated (and expensive) NV equipment. I can detect movement at over 200yds in low moonlight with out IR. Well designed and functional out of the box.
