JEM's Review of Uncle Mike's Law Enforcement Fitted Pistol Magazine Pouches w/Insert

I bought the Law Enforcement style double magazine pouch for single stack magazines. I intended to use it for the 8 round 10mm magazines which fit my Ruger SR1911 pistol. The pouches have an internal flat spring which provides tension to hold the magazines securely without rattling. The flaps which cover the magazine are attached inside the pouch with hook and loop fasteners. This allows the flaps to be adjusted for different length magazines. With my 10mm magazines, the flaps can be extended to accommodate some 9 round (but not 10 round) magazines. The pouches are well made and sturdy. The pouches provide good protection for the magazines.

Because of the way the flap fits inside of the pouch, it takes up some of the space available for the magazine. The internal flap attachment combined with the internal spring make for a pretty tight fit for my 10mm magazines. After opening the flap, it is pretty difficult to remove the magazine quickly and smoothly using only one hand. I think the fit would be impossibly tight with single stack .45 ACP magazines, but it is just about perfect with single stack 9mm magazines. The overly tight fit with 10mm and .45 magazines is the only reason I did not give this product 5 stars.

The flap is lightly padded, so it is possible that the padding in the flap may eventually get compressed enough to get a looser fit. The internal spring may also loosen up some. But as it is now, the pouch is suitable for carrying 10 mm magazines in the field while hiking, in luggage, or at the range; but the pouch is not suitable for carrying in situations where quick access might be necessary.

I have also previously purchased Uncle Mikes mag pouches for double stack magazines. They are labelled as part of the Sidekick line of products and have a similar style of construction. They fit both 9mm and 10mm mags perfectly, but I have never tried double stack .45 mags in them.
Pros:
  • Sturdy construction, good protection for
Cons:
  • Fit too tight for quick access to 10mm and .45 mags
Best Used for:
  • Carrying magazines in your luggage or range bag
