The sensor works well and the 1/60 sec frame rate is good. Resolution is good, and is as advertised. You can select gray scale display or rainbow(black/blue/green/red/yellow/white, all with smooth blended color), and a few other display color options. Turning on: button press-to first imaging time is 11 seconds, although there's a brief freeze from 17 sec to 21 sec after turn-on button press. After 21 sec, imaging is continuous, although every 10 seconds, there's a 1/4 sec freeze as it recalibrates. This is not much of a problem. At ~6 watts, it can eat through a lot of disposable batteries fast, and I would recommend buying 6 of the the rechargeable version (which I think are LiFePO4). Two disposables are shipped with the device (2 out of the 6 that can be loaded into the battery holder), and these 2 don't last very long.
The instructions online are minimal. For example, you can get the temperature scale to lock (normally, the device looks at every pixel and continuously assigns white to the hottest and black to the coldest-- this is "unlocked") but to figure out how to do this, the instructions aren't clear. You have to try things (MENU→3rd thing down→3rd thing down→MENU→momentary press POWER. The instructions imply that all you have to do is momentary press POWER, but that doesn't do it.
