Most Helpful Positive Review FLIR product vs. customer service.
Overall, very good product. Disappointed that it did not come with an owners manual, only a fast start guide. Granted there is not much that goes beyond the info in the fast start guide. However, the little white light on the front top of the thermal, keeps coming on, even when the unit is off, on...

Most Helpful Negative Review Bad Product - Bad Customer Service - Lost all confidence in FLIR - Don't BUY!!!
I purchased the FLIR Scout III 640 just before elk season 2019 here in Idaho. The LCD screen didn't work properly from day 1. Everything had a blue shade to it and shortly after receiving it, which happened to be the day before elk season started, the LCD screen picture completely inverted itself so...

Your best friend hunting hogs

by Eric Mchugh, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 18, 2024
This thing almost makes hog hunting unfair. Great battery life. I got the 640, with zoom capability which is really nice to have. I've used thermals that produce a much clearer image, but this is fine because it's just for spotting. If it was an actual rifle scope, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a shot based on the image it provides. That's not it's intended use though, and those rifle scopes cost 3x what I paid for this monocular. This does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Great monocular, low battery life

by Bill, from FL, United States Written on May 15, 2022
Great monocular, clear image. Several different color palettes. Unfortunately, after 2-1/2 years battery life is now down to 2 hours. Probably need to return to Flir to get battery replaced but I hate to be without it for any length of time. I see no other complaints about battery life so probably just mine. Other than battery, I recommend this monocular
Pros:
  • Clarity
Cons:
  • Battery
Best Used for:
  • night hunting, game retrieval

NonUniform correction (NUC) virtually ineffective.

by Hank, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on March 28, 2021
I have an ATN thermal scope with about half the resolution of SCout iii 640, but the scope is much clearer after NUC function is performed. The Scout iii 640 appears as if you are looking through a dirty TV screen that negates the otherwise good image. Also the brightness is very dim, even at max setting for screen brightness. Needs to be operated at max screen brightness just to get a viewable image.. discussion with FLIR tech reps indicate it is malfunctioning. I have returned it for replacement. Awaiting action from OP that replacement will be issued. Will revisit review after replacement is received and evaluated
Pros:
  • Potential of being better
Cons:
  • Bad introduction

scout 3 640

by jack, from SC, United States Written on July 2, 2019
We use Flir products on our plantation here in South Carolina to hunt wild boar, find shot game and navigate the boat at night. I've been using a Scout 320 for the last two years successfully however we sent it in for warranty repair (which they did a great job on). While it was in I bought the Scout 3 640; this is a great unit! The resolution is crystal clear even in magnification mode. If you use thermal you know how hard it is to identify the species of game at distance. The Flir 640 is a game changer to identify your species without getting to close and risk getting busted. The new color palette is outstanding in its ability to identify hot spots even in some fairly thick cover. It aint cheap but its really top shelf and they stand behind the product with a great warranty program. Its the best I've used.....by far.

Scout III 640 Thermal Night Vision Monocular

by Gary, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on January 9, 2019
Great Product.

Only few downsides :
1. USB Power Adapter/Charger and USB Cable does not have a separate pocket in Molle Bag, but can be squeezed in bag with Scout III.
2. Accessory sold to record video is expensive (don't need added expense)

NOTE: All thermal images for any product will look much worse after rainy weather -----due to water bringing all objects to a more uniform temperature (reduced contrast) and water coatings interfering/distorting with heat radiation emitted from objects.

Best Fair so far

by armypilot, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on October 14, 2017
I have owned three different FLIR handhelds and this one seems to be the best. They added a new color palette (orange or fire) but I am not really sure what it is to be used for. The only con is sometimes you still get a little washout even with this unit. It definitely works out a long way. A must-have for predator hunting.

Great product!

by BCSO, from MI, United States Written on September 11, 2017
The quality of this product is second to none! We have been very pleased with the FLIR Scout III 640. Looking forward to seeing just what all it will do. The company put us in touch with Planet Optics so that we were able to purchase with a PO.

Very poor customer service

by Rick, from AK, United States Written on March 2, 2017
I purchased this product in part because of a discount offered by Optics Planet and a rebate offered by FLIR. I submitted my rebate back in December 2016 and have not received it as of March 2, 2017. I have tried calling numerous times and am instructed leave a message and they will return my call. They have never returned my call. Be wary of spending this kind of money on a product with the lack of customer service. Thermal imagining is great, but I would go with a different manufacturer.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • bad customer service

Tiny and so powerful

by JR, from IA, United States Written on December 13, 2016
The device is very compact, lightweight and comfortable to hold. I lead very active life style so for me it is vital to be mobile and to avoid taking too many big, heavy things. You know, I prefer to carry trophies than a lot of equipment. Detects heat very far away, I read the description and the seller described the unit quite well, but to try it myself is a totally different thing. Clear and accurate image, easy button control, powerful zoom – everything what I needed.

Nice Compact Thermal Unit

by Jim B, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on December 11, 2016
Clear, crisp image. Hear to beat FLIR for thermal imaging equipment. Purchased item so that I could use it to scan for coyotes and feral hogs without needing to hold up my thermal-equipped rifle and wear out my old arms!
