I bought this scout and have used it basically to find coyotes at night. The battery does not last long. In fact when I store the item the battery will not hold a charge for 4 days, it’s dead
.I like the item, but it’s not worth the money if it cannot hold a charge.

I bought this unit directly from Flir in December of 2020. Upon receipt I used it for about a half an hour after charging completely .
The unit was charged every 6 months to assure the battery was okay and kept in climate controlled conditions.
I tested this again last year and the battery would only hold a charge for about 15 minutes. Then it got to the point where it wouldn't hold a charge, for only a few minutes .
Now in February of 2023 we have a situation where it won't even take a charge. I looked up on the internet and found numerous people from 2019 and 2020 who are complaining about the very same issues that I'm having here .
I called Flir and they indicated that this unit has a 24-month warranty. So now I wish I had called them last year to have the unit serviced under warranty. But my only choice now apparently is a $300 minimum repair bill to fix a $600 scope. And I can't even be sure that when they fix it it's going to remedy the problem. Because when it was brand new it just kept killing the battery every time it was in storage.
So buyer beware. I guess some of these may work okay and some of them don't. But if you've got a problem make sure you get it in there within the first 24 months and hope they fix it to some new standard, because the old one obviously wasn't working.

This quit working after six months. Won't boot up. First one wouldn't charge returned it. Can't reach the company, no support. Do not buy! $600 out the window. Total waste of money. Four is all about advertising, don't have any service.

Garbage - plugged it in, started to charge then failed. A very expensive paperweight. I should have known given the issues related to power and batteries. Never FLIR devices again... Do not buy this garbage
Pros:
- no idea - it never worked
Cons:
- made by FLIR - very poor quality control
Best Used for:
- holding down paper as an expensive paperweight

This is a solid tool for its intended use. If you are searching for a down game animal or scanning the farmyard for potential predators, this tool provides a real advantage.
Pros:
- small and light weight
- fast start up
- good image quality
Cons:
- refresh rate causes some lag if scanning / panning an area too quickly
- image is lost for a few seconds during re-calibration, which seems to happen fairly often

Scout TK compact monocular D/C 14517. S/N 20206. Purchased 6/25/18 and stopped working 9/22/20.
I was very happy with the unit. It was very reliable for the 2 years and 3 months before it faulted. It is an entry level product so you cannot expect the range and clarity of a multi thousand dollar item. However, it works great as a close in spotter for hogs (100 yards and less) so that you get the rifle on them. The unit starts up but stays on the initial screen and will not go to the thermal picture. Customer service answered promptly and suggested I hold down power for 10 sec which, I presume, is a soft boot function. Unfortunately, it did not work. The customer service person was nice, but he said I did not need a receipt, which I thought was odd. You do need a receipt to get the shipping label. The serial number is not on the unit, but it is on the box - so save it if you get a new one. I will submit an update on what they say when I return it, but their warranty is 2 years.
I gave it a star four each year it worked properly. When you watch their advertising videos they imply it is durable and rugged. Well, I did not drop it or submerge it or otherwise abuse it. It just stopped working. I would enthusiastically recommend this product if it had better durability. With only a 2 year, 3 months service life, I would say I got ripped off.
Pros:
- compact, light weight, quiet, decent battery life
Cons:
- stopped working after 27 months
Best Used for:
- target acquisition to 100 yards, target ID to 50

Good luck getting any support from FLIR. I've been through the redirection ringer with the organization over the past 3 years attempting an update to fix a startup problem. 3 years later and I am still rocking V1.00.0.
Cons:
- Low refresh, unable to lock temp range, lack of support

Very easy to use. Starts up quick. Great addition to my PVS 14 system. All the reviews I read we're right on par. For an entry-level system I think it's awesome. It would be great for Home Security camping lots of great applications. Bottom line is it's handier than socks on a chicken! Would recommend for sure.

Excellent small thermal unit. Operation is easy with buttons sized properly if wearing gloves. As one would expect from a unit this size and price point it does not have long range accuracy however with the 100 yard daylight and longer at night it works very well. Size allows easy storage in cargo pocket and weight is no problem to hang around the neck with included strap. As long as you recognize the appropriate uses for this device you’ll find no cons.
Pros:
- Easy to operate
- Lightweight & accurate
