Expert Review

Surprisingly excellent retention for single stack 9mm/.40 caliber magazine

by Mike C., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on September 16, 2016
I own a few different Fobus holsters and was looking forward to trying out their new variable DSS1 mag. This thing is great! I was very eager to find out how the unique DSS1 “dual spring system” worked which is supposed to fit a wide variety of single stack 9mm and .40 caliber magazines as well as some larger .380 mags, such as the Glock 42. Before I even put the magazine in, I figured there’s no way the mag is going to stay in there. I was very wrong. The dual spring system actually applies tension to both the back and sides of the mag which keeps the mag securely in the pouch. A friend and I tried this out. I have a Glock 43, and he has the Walther PPS, so we got to test both steel and polymer magazines. The magazines go in smoothly, and come out just as easy. The best part was when we took the DSS1 off of our waistbands, and shook it to see if the magazine would slip, it didn’t! The tension from the springs holds the magazine very firmly. I am very impressed with this, and can see this design being used for Competition magazine holders! Great product and design!

  • Magazine held very securely
  • Paddle ergonomic for all day comfort
  • Dual spring system adjusts to any single stack 9mm/.40 cal, and some .380

  • Paddle only right now

  • concealed carry
