Pros and Cons with the Clutch 5.56 LEFT - - RIGHT Charging Handle 5STAR!
First off, I commend Fortis for offering the Clutch charging handles at a reasonable price; sometimes, I think premium AR part manufacturers are a bit full of themselves and over price their products. At sub 40$, this Charging handle is a great value! Like most Fortis products, it is certainly top notch quality. Now, if you are going to run the RIGHT handed only, you will be absolutely in love with the Clutch! There is zero slop in the lever, and it takes palm blades or thumb/finger pulls with ease. Unfortunately, I did not get the RIGHT handed version, I have the LEFT handed charging han...

One side pull Charging Handle
Great design. Removes one side of pull. When carrying rifle close. Helps not catching on vest or clothing. I'm putting on a left handed rifle build this works great.
Would recommend: Yes
Excellent charging handle
Works great, got it to replace a Radian CH that my flip-to-side magnifier was bumping into.
Would recommend: Yes
Left hand version does not lock on upper receiver
Didn't realize this until I bought it but none of my upper receivers have the milled out spot on the upper receiver to lock the charging handle in place...make sure if you purchase this that it has a spot to lock or you mill it yourself or you could get a charging handle to the face while shooting.
Pros:
- left handed use
Cons:
- does not lock to the upper receiver
Best Used for:
- lefties with milled lock spot in the upper receiver on right side
Would recommend: No
Fortis Clutch
I purchased this charging handle to use on a AR15 pistol build. I chose the left hand charging handle. This handle is close to the bolt carrier forward assist. None of my upper receivers have latch on right for charging handle to lock into.
Would recommend: No
Got the wrong side, but not bad.
I received the wrong side (right not left), but I’m resourceful, so I’ll just route the pocket to accept it. Besides that, it’s smooth and feels great. I like that it lowers the profile quite a bit, in fact, the fact that it’s on the right keeps it in line with the ejection kicker so the whole left side is flat on the upper.
Pros:
- ergonomic
- Low profile
- Smooth
- Easy
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Low profile charging
Would recommend: Yes
Smooth as butter
Less is more in some cases and this is definitely one of those cases. For $40 you get a no-nonsense charging handle made with the same quality as $100+ models + a very cool and innovative design that will likely outlast traditional roll-pin designs.
Pros:
- All of the above
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- AR-15
Would recommend: Yes
I can handle this
This is my second Fortis Clutch charging handle. I like the way the handle pivots and I think it will last under rugged conditions. Handle grips easy for positive control.
Pros:
- Ease of use
- Build quality
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- AR15
Would recommend: Yes
no BS non ambi charging handle for right-ys
Great design, better than milspec. Eliminates roll pin weak point. Long enough to grab with gloves, but not long enough to snag on gear. Doesn’t interfere with 34mm tube optic. Pulls smooth with no drag. Sub $40 with coupon code.
Pros:
- Innovative concept
Cons:
- None
Would recommend: Yes
Right side
This is the second of this style of charging handle that I've purchased. The way my rifle hangs from a sling caused a normal charging handle to dig into my guts which is quite irritating. This can still be operated easily by either hand but stays out of the way of my sternum. Seems sturdy and well built and fits properly in my bcm upper. No issues, I'll continue to buy these for future ar15 builds.
Pros:
- Sturdy
- Better ergonomics
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Ar15 on a sling
Would recommend: Yes
AR pistol with no Arm Brace
This charging handle works well on AR pistols, allowing you to rest the buffer tube against your cheek. Because it has no handle on the left side, there is nothing to hit you in the face during recoil.
Would recommend: Yes
