Trainer Randy's Review of Franklin Armory BFS Binary AR-Elite 3 Position Trigger

I bought this Binary Trigger before the FRT case was won… and available.
The Franklin trigger comes with different spring weights - even so it still has a terrible break.
If you learn the rhythm of the trigger, it works Ok, but just Ok the break is still sad. Even with the lighter spring the trigger has a terrible break, and zero crispness compared to even a Daniel Defense Mil-Spec trigger! You learn your weapon systems feel & rhythm as well as the ammo you use, this trigger is so unpredictable it is just a sad trigger. It is only good for someone to play with and would get you smoked if ever used for an engagement.
I even polished the sear, and it still has a rotten break… compared to an FRT the break & reset aren’t even close! I imagine the price of this trigger will be sub $200 very soon. When I bought it the price paid was just under $500 and after over a year of use it is still junk. Just my opinion but after 5 decades of wielding a long gun for my early career and then as an instructor this is a NO buy trigger unless your looking for a cheaper option to play around only…
Conclusion after 2 years of off & on use: I would NOT recommend it for any kind of Engagement whatsoever! It has a high probability of being unpredictable and you will pay for that unless you are just jacking around. A good Geissele trigger is much faster and certainly more dependable, predictable and precise on break, keeping the rifle on target.
Early on for fun to attempt full auto this was almost fun… just more of a headache than fun…simply compared to an FRT this is junk! I have attempted to give it away after friends try it out, but they all go for the FRT instead! Even comparing FREE to $500 they choose an operable trigger as to an inoperable trigger…
The FRT still isn’t like the real thing as you can, close but not. Think of being in an engagement and pinning the FRT trigger to the rear like a rear full-auto, and you’ll be in trouble as it will jam…unless insanely over gassed like a MK18 w/can on it… but again that makes it unpredictable as well. The FRT is nice and hopefully it will be refined, and a user can see the high wear areas & I have no idea of the materials the trigger case is made of and the wear-rate of the two pins? It would be nice to see to two oil impregnated bronze bushings on the pins so as to increase the life and wearability of the trigger, thus increasing the reliability to the real thing… To note I also use the Geissele Super Duty Bolts and they are taking it with no visible wear, although the Daniel Defense upper shows slight wear signs which is totally normal. I do have my uppers cerakoted with the super slick coating the same as most bolts have, I had my competition shotgun uppers internally coated, and it totally improves the reliability and the bolt speed. I use the C-Series coating, CERAKOTE C-110 Micro-Slick coating (must be used with a 325 MESH strainer) and it makes the wear on the upper extremely low, but is a bit of a process to strip and coat the inside. Cheers…
