Albert's Review of Galco Great Alaskan Shoulder System Holster

I'm very pleased with the shoulder holster. I am a 160# 5'8 guy with no hips, so belt holsters and tool belts are restricting to wear. I bought this specifically for a 6" Ruger GP100 in .357, and that means it also fits my Colt Python of the same size. I can sit with it, walk with it, drive with it, ride an atv with it, wear my backpack and even work with it on. I like wearing it on one shoulder versus across the neck because the barrel doesn't bulge out of the jacket at the increased downward angle. Previously I had a nylon vertical shoulder holster that clipped to the belt on either side which made it hardly better than a belt holster. With little walking it would migrate down on the weighted side and up on the other. This holster does not migrate, I have logged many miles in a few weeks. It is very well made. It has full coverage for the trigger guard which is important to me. I do wish they incorporated an adjustable retention strap for the hammer. It was a shame to do but through bolted a one inch spacer for a barrel stop. Not only does this make the retention strap tight on the hammer but it also keeps the adjustable sight from riding on the holster rim. Om a side note it fits the Python even better with the 1" plug because the hammer is longer and curved. I did add a few more holes on the shoulder strap to wear it during the summer. Besides that I tied lacing through a few holes as a safety check like on a rifle sling. If you are looking at this just do it, you'll be pleased.
Pros:
  • Very comfortable and accurate cuts. Solid price and quality
Cons:
  • hammer retention strap is a loose fit and it has plastic D rings
Best Used for:
  • Carrying more often
