Legacy Reviewer's Review of Galco Jackass Shoulder Rigs, Leather

GALCO Jackass Shoulder Rigs: The Original Jackass Rig features a horizontal holster with patented swivel connectors, which can be adjusted to a more diagonal carry position. I purchased this for a Glock 17 that I wanted to carry on a diagonal position. I wanted the barrel to be pointed towards the ground.

Gun into holster. This holster is for Glocks with many different barrel lengths, but the only way I could get a Glock 17 to slide all the way into the formed barrel shape in the holster was to loosen the screw at the bottom of the holster. Prior to loosing the screw, I followed the instructions and daily over a week I pushed the Glock in as far as I could and left it there overnight. Finally, I loosen the screw at the bottom of the holster and the Glock slide into the formed barrel shape. A Glock 19 probably would have fit without adjusting the screw.

Closing the retaining strap. Over the next week I daily twisted and stretched the retaining strap until I could close it. The strap just barely closed, but it did finally close.

Diagonal carry position. Over the third week I daily tried different adjustment combinations. But the only diagonal position I could get the holster to adjust to was with the barrel pointed upward into my armpit. This is not how I will carry a weapon. If the swivels were in a different position or another swivel was added to the top of the holster at the barrel end, then a barrel down diagonal carry position would be possible.

Is the quality of the holster good? Yes. Can the holster be used the way I thought it would? No.

Pros: Good quality, retaining straps for holster and magazines
Cons: Only for horizontal or barrel up carry
