Lazarus's Review of Geissele Ambi Posi-Snap Safety Selector
I'm not sure if using a Giessele safety with a LaRue trigger is a gun faux-pas, but it works.
I've tried several ambi-safety selectors, and this is by far the most functional and effective. Positive snaps into and out of safe, with a break-point that forces one to either complete the snap, or return to the previous position... these are machined in such a way as to eliminate any creep or grit in use, and there is no half-way... it's either safe, or not.
Docked one star for two reasons, neither of which are deal breakers, but simply shortcomings in the reviewers opinion:
First, this is a decent value with a standard 90 degree throw, but I feel like it wouldn't take much to add the option for a 45-60 degree throw, and would make it the absolute go-to bar-none in this price range, which is rare for G$ as most of their stuff is intentionally over-priced as a standard gate-keeping practice among higher-end names, regardless of value provided. Granted, in most cases the premium price for G4 pays for that next level, but diminishing returns are present for their higher priced items. There's no reason they can't have a few basic components that are full featured for a fair price when compared to basic equivalents. This should have been one of them.
Second, surprisingly, is actually a finish issue. The cuts/striations/grooves meant to gain traction on the levers themselves are sharp... like, if you approach them the wrong way with bare skin, they will take skin off. Now with a gloved hand this wouldn't be an issue, but care is needed to not run one's bare hand along the length of these cuts or paper-cut like cuts or abrasions may result. I hope over time these will burnish down and find a happy medium between grabby-ness and bare-hand comfort, but if I'm being realistic this is splitting hairs and proper AR training requires gloves, anyway.
All in all an excellent safety, and my first G$ beyond triggers and rails. To be honest, I don't think I'd buy another G$ trigger at the prices they ask, for most uses you can do as well or better for less. The rest of their products are top notch, and arguably worth the asking prices, when compared to their lesser priced competitors. As you're likely considering this against the Aero/Schmid ambi at around $25 at the time of this writing, spend the extra $15 and get this one, you gain the short lever on the right, and a much cleaner snap/return.
That is all.
