Most Helpful Positive Review Maritime Bolt Catch
I bought this because I’m lefty and I thought it’d help me and I was right. Shoot, reload, shoot time was sped up quite a bit for the previous method I was using. Definitely would recommend to again and will definitely be buying again if I decide to build another ar.
Most Helpful Negative Review Good in theory
I really wanted to like it, but it doesn't do what I wanted. The part of the paddle that protrudes rearward is useless. When you try to push it, especially with an empty mag, it binds up. Not just a little, you can push at the most rearward portion of the bolt catch to the point of thinking the ...

better than the Strike Industries one so far

by Booker, from WI, United States Written on June 10, 2026
I bought this to replace the SI modular bolt catch. So far I do think it is a little better but not by a huge margin. While the SI does have a "plastic" face and has a very small amount of bend to it, it still works every time and is very cool that you can swap the style without remove it completely. With that said. The SI does stick out (the thickness of it from the lower receiver to outward away from the firearm) much more than the Maritime. Which could be more prone to snagging. So I am digging how "uniform" this one is. BUT the Maritime is much more wide up and down. Thus giving a bigger look to it vs the SI one. Which my goal was to be flatter and sleeker. But only time will tell how I really feel about the comparison. Id say so far seems to be the best option for reliability. Oh and the color is more of a grey metal rather than a black like I was hoping. Nitpicking but I am just particular in my observations and know what I want. Looking forward to field testing.

handsome, but interferes with trigger pin and mag catch

by Toolbox, from MI, United States Written on June 9, 2026
I was assembling my new stripped lower and installed this bolt catch. After I installed this and went to install the mag catch I discovered I couldn't turn that lever the final turn to spec because this bolt catch gets in the way. Then I discovered the front trigger pin will not install from left to right because this bolt catch gets in the way of that too. I installed the trigger pin from the other side but I'll have trouble sleeping tonight with my OCD.
Pros:
  • nice large pads
Cons:
  • blocks mag release lever
  • blocks trigger pin install from left side

Favorite Bolt Catch

by JB, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on April 12, 2026
Love the way these feel and look compared to the milspec bolt catch. One thing to know is that it runs tight when running the sig mcx lt upper conversion kit. Haven't shot it yet but hoping I won't run into issues.

Function good - damaged my BCA 300BLK Upper

by Dave-in-Texarkana, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on February 24, 2026
This installed and functions well. My son has several and really likes them as why I tried this. One caveat and the star off, the 'flying boat tail', to the right of the upper release button as you look at the release straight on, is very wide. It was catching on the metal housing of the upper mentioned. That upper is a side charging handle upper and as such has some extra wide metal in the bolt catch/release button spot. They mill out quite a bit extra in this spot for this reason, but even with that larger opening, this extra piece on the right top still rubbed on the metal and damanged/caused metal shavings. I thought I had a bad bolt but it was this all along. When I swapped this back out for the OEM release the problem was resolved. Beware what firearm you put it on. It works well on my PSA AR 15 frame uppers, just not the side charging handle one.
Pros:
  • easy to select
  • installed fine
  • good diameter pivot point
Cons:
  • Top release too wide for some uppers
Best Used for:
  • ar 15 platform with standard charging handle

Best bolt catch on the market

by SgtWood, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on February 1, 2026
Greet fitment, looks great and much easier to use over the standard milspec bolt catch. People saying it doesn't fit PSA lowers must not know how to install it. I've had no issues with it on PSA lowers. It really should work just fine in any ar15 lower. Wish they would make an AR-10 version.

I love this bolt catch. The extended surface is really forgiving in quick mag releases/reload and bolt release.

Doesn't fit PSA lower

by Shane, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on January 30, 2026
Will not work with a PSA lower. The lower paddle contacts the receiver before it can lift enough to lock the bolt back.
