I wanted a good solid machete, not a flimsy, cheap piece of steel that doesn't hold an edge and has a plastic handle. I've had Gerber knives before and loved the quality, so I went with this machete. It didn't disappoint! It's a good solid blade with a beefy saw blade that can actually saw through stuff! It's not just a serrated chunk of metal, it's fairly sharp with thick teeth. Pretty much like a crosscut saw. The factory edge is pretty sharp but you can get a razor edge with a bit of sharpening. The handle is a thick, grippy rubber that feels good when you grip it. It just feels right when you hold it. The lanyard loops around to form a sort of handguard to keep your hand from slipping past the guard if you get all sweaty. The scabbard is heavy duty enough to last for years and has a plastic protector so the sawblade doesn't shred the scabbard every time you pull it out. The Velcro fastener keeps it secure.
After I got it, I saw the same machete on a couple of episodes of Naked And Afraid. If it's good enough for naked people to use in the wild for 21 days, then it's more than enough for the average Joe.
I'm very pleased with it! I couldn't believe the price was so low.

Now were talking, when I opened this up I liked what I saw. This is a Man's toy. It is sharp so watch out and the best thing about it works, it cut's like it should and it has a saw on one side that works like it should. This is not for kids so watch out. A very serviceable, moderately priced machete with the quality expected of a Gerber product. Quite sharp fromn the factory. The only knock would be that the blade is somewhat light and thin but this is an inexpensive knife.

If your in the market for a Machete, rest assured, this is the one. I bought this as a smiles gift for my wife since we love "The Walking Dead" I expected an average Machete with a simple flimsy sheath. I was wrong. This product is awsome. The sheath is hard formed Nylon and the blade comes sharp with a sharp serrated back.
I'm really considering ordering more of these as Christmas gifts and a few soldiers I know.
