If you look at this thing dead on from 6 inches away it is bright. But other than that it isn't bright at all. If you are in a completely pitch black room, it helps a bit. I work with the Coast Guard and I board vessels that are well lit in most areas but have dark cavities. This light wouldn't light these cavities up at all. The only reason I now carry this light with me is so that I can have a red light as to not ruin my night vision.
