Excellent quality knife

by Brian, from WA, United States Written on January 17, 2018
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this knife but have been very pleased with its quality and workmanship. As other online reviews have stated, the assisted opening function is quite stiff at first but loosens with time. The other small gripe I have is with the thumb stud as it feels harder on my thumb compared to my Kershaw Blur which uses an angled thumb stud. Those small things are my only ideas for improvements. On the positive side I really enjoy the high quality S30V steel blade, excellent G-10 handle and the pivot lock. I have been unable to find information on the pivot lock but when locked open it feels like a fixed blade. I assume that the lock would require tremendous pressure to fail which is something I have worried about with my other assisted opening knives which use very lightweight mechanisms to lock the blade open. The other great thing is that this particular Gerber is made in the USA!
Pros:
  • Made in USA
  • Workmanship
  • Pivot Lock
  • High quality S30V blade
Cons:
  • Stiff assisted opening
  • Thumb stud design
Best Used for:
  • Tactical
  • EDC
  • General usage

Hard to open

by Craigp, from NC, United States Written on January 21, 2016
Otherwise great knife. Feels well put together. Substantial. Tough to get the hang of opening with the thumb stud. Blade is sharp. Usually takes me two hands to open. Actually bruised my thumb practicing one handed opening.
Pros:
  • Well built.
Cons:
  • Hard to open with just one hand
Best Used for:
  • Cutting or stabbing
