J. K.'s Review of Guard Dog Body Armor Sheppard Plate Carrier

*I will update this review once I've put a significant amount of hours on the carrier*

First and foremost, this plate carrier came exactly as pictured which is awesome. I really wanted a plate carrier with a quick detach cummerbund & quick detach shoulder straps. This one had all of those features without breaking the bank. I really like the alloy construction of the quick detach shoulder strap, similar to the buckle on a battle belt/duty belt and it seems very robust and lock in place nice and tight with an audible click. It came with all of the molle attachments as pictured (molle pouch w/ 3 AR/M4 mag pouches, 3x full size/duty pistol mag pouches (could use for tourniquets in a pinch, Standard size zippered admin pouch & a large zippered admin pouch. Cummerbund has nice molle panels on both sides (have yet to inspect if I would be able to fit soft side armor in the cummerbund, I don't really like or use soft armor on the side of my plate carrier for what I currently use my carriers for nowadays, but I will update this review later once I pull some soft armor side panels out of an old vest's cummerbund and see If it will hold them. Regardless the vest should have no problem, in my opinion, taking some of the aftermarket cummerbunds that are quick detach and side armor capable if its stock cummerbund wont accept side armor if side armor is something you would use). Construction seems very robust and durable, I've heard concerns about the material/fabric used as it is not Cardura and is made of Oxford. Honestly, as a civilian this does not concern me whatsoever and the stitching was very well done and robust and so are the molle panels. The molle panels are rigid and robust and might be a little annoying when first attaching things and orienting your vest layout the way you want it, but this is absolutely NOT a bad thing. Because of the rigidity and quality of the stitching I don't envision it wearing quickly and having things move too freely like some of the other plate carrier brands at this price point. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and am excited to put some hours on this carrier and update the review. I also own the Crye JPC, Safe Life Defense Soft armor Duty Vest, and an AR 500 minimalist carrier ("freeman") as an off duty emergency option for my vehicle when I worked in Bail Bonds so I will be comparing the Shepherd to those vests as well. Will update when I have put some significant hours on this vest. As for now it feels very comfortable with old and crappy steel plates I had laying around as well as with some nicer, much lighter, Level IV ceramic plates that I have. Long story short: I have yet to put significant testing hours on this carrier, seems very robust and duty capable (atleast for Security/Asset Recovery/LE work where a plate setup would be favorable to soft armor), certainly self defense/ emergency capable If you'd have a need for this kind of setup as most home defense situations might not allow you the time to throw on a plate carrier, but thats just my opinion based of my residence and where I live, so do you. Will update review after testing.
