Gun Storage Solutions Rifle Rods Six-Pack
Easy to set up, frees up a ton of space in your safe
Pros: easy to use
Cons: none
Good idea but ....
These are an innovative way to maximize the available space in a safe. I can probably fit twice as many rifles in the same amount of space using the rods as opposed to using the built-in rests, especially since realistically you can use only every other rest. The velcro on the top of the rods holds extremely well, a real plus considering how much the rods bend. I've only had one rifle break loose and I've been using the rods for about 4 years.
However, while these work great with some rifles, such as those that are long enough so that almost all of the rod is inside the barrel, they are not so great when there is a mix of short and/or heavy rifles and carbines with longer guns - for example, M1 Garands and Enfields mixed with M1 and M4 carbines mixed with .30/30s and 10/22s. The only size rods they make fit a .22 barrel and are too thin to provide much support once more than 10 or 12 inches of the rod is outside the barrel. The rods will bend several inches off center and the gun will bounce around, making positioning the rifles a little tricky. I wrote the company a while ago asking if there were any plans to produce a thicker rod (.30 caliber would be an ideal size for a majority of rifles) and was told no. Too bad, because I would definitely buy a couple dozen for my gun safes. They did suggest that I group similar sized rifles together but I have too many different lengths for that to work.
Other than that, I really like these rods. They are a practical tool that adds f...
