Legacy Reviewer's Review of GunVault SpeedVault Biometric Handgun Safe

I have an early teen living in the house and want my guns locked up but still want them easily available to me. This was perfect for my home office. Here are some things I learned while mounting and setting the scanner for this unit.

I mounted mine high on the side so I could secure it to both the bottom of the desk top and side of the desk. I added screws as there were not enough that come with it. Mounting was pretty easy following the instructions

I did not find the program buttons until I had the safe apart for mounting. The instructions tell you everything but exactly where the buttons are. Felt like an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. They are inside the safe above the door, right below the reader.

The reader comes so that any scan will open the safe and remains this way until the first admin scan is entered. Once programmed, it now only accepts the programmed prints.

A saw some comments about the reader being picky, but decided to buy anyway. Here are some tips to avoid issues. I found there is a slight delay between pressing the button and the reader being ready to match the scanned print. So, push the button, wait about 1 second, then scan your finger. Doing this I find it opens on the first scan about 4 out of 5 times. Second, when you do your first scan to program your print, do it in the position you will normally use to open your safe. In other words, program it AFTER you mount it, not before. Also, make sure you are in the position you will be in when opening the safe in the future.

Now, having done the following through trial and error, I find that this safe opens almost every time on the first read. From the time I start to open the safe, to the time I have my H&K USP 45c ready to fire, is less than 2 seconds. Not bad from safe to firing.

I am more than pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone wanting a vertical mount single weapon safe.
Pros: Vertical Mount, Easy to access, easy to use
Cons: Documentation on programming
