The top priority for buying any product is CUSTOMER SERVICE. I just got off the phone with the customer service rep for GunVault requesting a replacement battery cover, small plastic piece. I was advised that they do not have replacement parts. That answer should make the buyer beware. Amazing spend $100 on a safe and no replacement parts. I also emailed and received no reply.

I first bought the finger print version and it did not open quickly and have to scan my finger couple times, so I switch to old school- keypad, and it works well. Take a little time to install and program, but it is easy. The only concern I have is it will not fit longer pistol with optic and light, like my X5, I am able to put in my G19 with RMR, but light did not fit.

Like everyone else mine failed. I had to reprogram, then it would work a week or so. Now does not work at all. New batteries have no affect. Sort of dangerous when you cannot rely on this. Only way to open is with key so it is a $200 lockbox. Do not buy. Cannot get through to anyone in customer service either.

These lock boxes are designed for planned obsolescence. Figure out how long the warranty is, and ask yourself if you are ok with the price of the unit knowing that it is only guaranteed to work during the warranty period. The motorized unit is embedded, and cannot be repaired or replaced. A quick Google search for “GunVault Reviews” reveals that they fail, and quite frequently. I wish that I had searched for reviews before spending a lot of money on mine. When the motorized unit that opens the vault fails (and it will) you can only open the vault with a key. Customer service will not offer you ANYTHING other than an apology, and instructions to use the Vault with a key from now on.
Cons:
- Must be used with key after motor fails.

Purchased unit 2016, worked great unit 4/2018. After entering code unit makes clicking sound but does not open (I have to enter code second time for it to open). Called customer support, they told me that the battery must have at least a date that is 5 years out (meaning 2023). I did as told and that worked for two weeks. Called back and was told that there is nothing they could do and that I should just use the key. The 5 year warranty is garbage, it is only for burglary, fire or disaster. Only one year on mechanical.

I've owned my SpeedVault for a couple years. Totally unreliable as it burns through batteries and never opens when needed due to the battery power not being able to trip the latch. I am using Energizer Max batteries. Took awhile to figure out the problem but now even though I change the batteries every 6 months it is still totally unreliable. How often do I need to change them to make it work--weekly? Avoid this product, it will lock up your pistol so even you can't access it when needed except with the back up key.

I have two of these bedside. One will not accept the code. Tried a new battery and reprogrammed now will beep five times intermittently. It was fun looking for the key in the middle of the night to pull the battery out. Even tried the lithium battery and it started beeping hours later. They give five years on fire or burglary with an official report and one year for defects. Customer service said it was an odd problem and to use high quality alkaline batteries. I said the chemistry should not be an issue. I guess I wasted my money on this. Cannot be relied upon.
