Louis Lomartra's Review of Hawke Sport Optics Frontier 30 Side Focus 5-30x50 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube Second Focal Plane
Ok I would like to start out with the package arrived in 3 days boxed well as always from Optics planet .
I had to get my hands on the 5x30x50 TMX FRONTIER to test.
I just reviewed the 2.5x15 and was so impressed I needed to try this model .
I unboxed the scope everything nicely protected well packaged . I was unsure with this model as parallax min goes to 30 yards unlike most all Hawke scopes go to 10 yards so this I needed to try out , I mounted it on a Air-Arms S-510 .22 caliber and then bore sighted . I noticed with all hawke scopes I have installed and its been over 30 now this scope bore sighted close to the middle range of turrets which was a good sign .
I then set up a target and zeroed @50 yards . I then have other targets every 10 yards up to 130 yards .
Once scope was zeroed with 4 shots I then did my normal turret test meaning a Box test left and up 4 mils with turret then right 8 mils then down 8 mils and right 8 mils then back to zero , total of 10 shots each turret adjustment and I also vary power range . I wish I could of posted a picture of target perfect square and when put back to zero all 10 shots threw same hole as first 10 shots , the turrets are flawless .
I do not know what Hawke has done to design this scope but I have used every model from Air Max to every sidewinder .
This model and other Frontier the glass is superb , I love all Hawke scopes but the Frontier is just higher quality I am not sure how or why the glass is just clearer then any other models I have used . I then installed the battery to check the illumination I got to say I am impressed with the crispness and clarity no bleeding no dimmer on any point , Ok now as for parallax The scope says 30 yards and on higher power it is spot on at 30 yards , however on lower power it is not a problem to shoot down to 10 yards which pleased me as well . I would also like to say I like the fact that is is more compact then the sidewinder line . I only wish Hawke would put screw on dust caps like sidewinders have for having a thread for camera mount and for putting a range card onto caps . I wish this TMX reticle will be an option on other models in future it is awesome . I give this scope a 10 out of 10 for overall . I would not buy any other line of scopes then Hawkes .
