I have a weakness for this style of rifle-scope. I have several original examples which are quickly becoming too collectable/valuable to use regularly. I expect the CMP Vintage Sniper Rifle competition has a part in the price increases.
This is not my first Wm. Malcolm scope. I have an early example of the U.S.M.C Sniper 8x and a Gen1 6x Short Rifle. I have been very satisfied with these scopes. I was expecting the same with this scope and I have not been disappointed. Fit and finish is very good, perhaps a bit nicer than the other two. The optical quality is excellent. Quite an improvement over my vintage examples. It's great to be able to preserve the old scopes and take a step up in performance.
The mounts are an improvement over the Gen1 6x Short Rifle Scope. The front allows the scope to move with recoil and the rear has much improved legibility in the windage and elevation controls. Add the parallax adjustment and I found this scope irresistible. A set of scope mount blocks were also included. My joy is complete!
Is it perfect? Well, I'm a target shooter so I would have liked a finer crosshair. Also click-stops on the adjustment turrets would have been nice. The Lyman style provide on the U.S.M.C Sniper 8x would be perfect but I accept that rear mount would have increased the price of this scope materially.
Mentioning price, the substantial discount offered by Optics Planet.com closed the deal.
My order was processed quickly and the scope was delivered days sooner...
