Most Helpful Positive Review Great Compfortable Handguard
I've now purchased 3 of these Hogue overmolded handguards in various sizes, and will continue to buy them for future upper builds. They are admittedly a bit of a pain to put on, but not too bad. The overmolding is very comfortable, and it helps temper temperature extremes. Living in the UP of Mich...

Most Helpful Negative Review Good Grip, poor design
Its a real nice grip, looks good, feels good, but has serious flaws, the barrel nut is part of the rear of the grip, You have to have a strap wrench to install this, therefore you cant use a torque wrench. If you decide to add a picatinny rail, you have to drill holes in it, Make sure the rear faste...

Hogue products

by Concorddeadeye, from OH, United States Written on March 6, 2024
This Hogue AR15/M-16 OverMold free floating forend is built rock solid and is both comfortable with a non slip grip and quiet when using off of a bench, freehand or shooting sticks. There is nothing to snag and easy to drill and tap underneath for sling stud to use with sling or Harris bi-pod. Hogue includes installation tool for easy assembly and removal if desired. They come In different lengths for what ever your application needs. They cover standard barrels to bull barrels I have these on all my varmint riles. Plus they have eye appeal if that matters to you.

I like HOGUE..

by RICHARD, from KY, United States Written on January 16, 2024
I run only all HOGUE furniture on my AR's. My only suggestion I can give to "HOGUE", it would to improve the mounting method in mounting the barrel nut to the upper REC or redesign it. The Barrel mount tool provided is totally useless. I suggest using a good quality STRAPE pipe wrench. Overall Hogue makes a sleek looking FOREND.......

Good - Simple - Clean

by PJW, from MT, United States Written on April 18, 2020
I'm a fan of these clean looking, simple to install Hogue handguards. This specific one is going on an varmint ar15 build for a rancher friend. He requested this piece because it doesn't have any sharp picatinny rails that gouge his pickup door panel or scratch his window. Also, the rubberized grip doesn't feel so cold on the hand when the rifle is ice cold from sitting in the truck all night. You never know when that coyote is going to appear! This handguard will be matched with a full A2 butt stock for a simple, OG M16 reminiscent look. He has no interest in accessories. This slick machine won't get caught on anything in the interior. Top it off with a birdcage flash-hider so that floorboard debris isn't an issue.
Pros:
  • Simple
  • Classic
  • clean
Cons:
  • No Accessory mounts

I really like hogue products on my AR

by mbrook, from MI, United States Written on April 9, 2017
I really like the feel of the overmolded rubber grip. It is more comfortable, and warmer in cold weather, than a standard aluminum tubes and the overmolding helps to absorb a bit of the sound from the shot. I did buy a strap wrench from Home Depot, about 9 bucks, to make installation a bit easier than the plastic tool they give you. There are a couple of youtube videos that show how to install and they are worth the time to watch. Overall I like it better than the aluminum tube that was on the AR, only for stars because of the need for a strap wrench.

Best length of this line

by chris, from OR, United States Written on September 26, 2016
Is tuff, secure, feels great looks great. This rifle length guard installed very easy, using a strap wrench. The over molding is a fantastic grip. Do not tighten the fore arm piece very much 'cause the overmolding will grow a bit in length and start to ride up over the edge of the barrel nut. Just secure snug hand tite and use blue loc tite,, on the hand guard threads only, not the barrel nut threads.
Shop right and use the discount codes and the price is right.
I've got an 18" rifle gas barrel with an A2 front post and all works great.

Great Product!

by Galen, from TN, United States Written on January 19, 2015
I just installed this on my AR and it looks great! Great feel with the rifle length on a carbine. The only reason I didn't not give it 5 stars is due to some frustrations on install. Nothing serious, just needed a pipe wrench and did not have one. i used a pair of slip-joint pliers and a towel (I did booger it up a bit but nothing substantial). Got tired of the "tacti-cool" look of my AR and decided to go with this to make it more streamline. Very happy with my decision!
Pros:
  • very sturdy
  • Great feel and control
Cons:
  • installation
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Target/ Range
