A chassis without the price

by Derek Meacham, Verified Owner from WV, United States Written on February 27, 2025
Take the time to skim bed in order to center the action in the stock and you will have amazing results. Torque to 45 then 65 in-bs. I was able to achieve 1/4" groups with factory .308 ammo. Lots of traction with the overmold rubber. Super stiff, great weight. This is a chassis disguised as a traditional stock.
Pros:
  • Price, stiffness, grip angle, texturing
Cons:
  • Needs bedding
Best Used for:
  • Target, bench, hunting

Excellent stock but needed some grinding too fit

by BigZ, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on October 17, 2024
I love the feel of Hogue stocks over my 2 Oryx chassis and Bell and Carson stocks. All the stocks work just fine but 2 of the non-chassis stocks required some grinding for a proper free floating fit. If the barrel is a #4 heavy Sporter or a heavy Palma then grinding is required. In the present stock, the barrel was a #4 Sporter requiring a lot of stock material to be removed from both sides and the tip. I had to use a drill rasp over a 2 hour period removing material and testing the fit. The fit is now perfect. The green color is nice. The full bedding block is a solid fit. I have another S.A. Heavy/ Varmint Full Bed stock in the Tan color which was a perfect fit for a #3 Sporter without any modifications. Lots of people say a chassis is the way to go, but I found them to heavy and a poor choice for mobility. Hogue stocks are lighter requiring less effort in shouldering a 22" up to a 26" barreled rifle.
Pros:
  • Light weight, nice solid fit
Cons:
  • required some grinding
Best Used for:
  • flexibity and mobility applications
