Most Helpful Positive Review Exactly what I wanted to accomplish.
After installing my new hogue stock I shot the best group I ever have with this rifle. I like the slightly tacky grip surface and overall build and fit of this stock. I am completely satisfied with this upgrade and the modest cost.

Fixed my problem

by Bruce, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on October 26, 2024
My SPS stock was causing my 3rd shot to walk on my 300 win mag. I dropped it in the Hogue stock, and I don’t have any hot barrel contact or issues anymore. Great look, fit and feel. This was a very simple and inexpensive fix. And I love that the hollow plastic sound of my original SPS stock is gone.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Grip
  • look & design
  • Ease of install
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • SPS stock upgrade

Hogue Ghillie stock

by Paul, from TX, United States Written on October 7, 2021
I thought I had ordered the Hogue stock with full length aluminum bedding block but that is not what came. I went to Hogue's website, got the part number and put it in the search bar at Optics planet where I learned it must be common to substitute what you're actually looking for with what they have on hand, my fault for not verifying. Other than not being what I really wanted, it'll work just fine, I've used Hogue stock for a long time and while they're not in the class of Manners or McMillan they are a very good choice for hunting rifles that don't need to be super light. They're quiet if you bang against something, weatherproof, comfortable and they fit pretty well. I usually bed all of my stocks at least in the recoil area and rear tang which will adjust for misalignment from the stock mold. I'm not a fan of smacking the recoil lug with a hammer as their instructions recommend but if you bed the recoil lug using studs you can slightly bias the lug position left or right to center the barrel in the channel. As long as there is no contact between the stock and barrel, being off center doesn't effect shooting. It is a good stock that's inexpensive and works.
