I shoot for recreation but also keep my 870 for a home defense situation. The Hogue forend is a great addition, as I had felt with the factory "cob" forend to slide in my hand while shooting. The Hogue forend is comfortable and I feel I have more control over the gun. Something to note is that it is a little longer than the factory "cob" forend. I have a Mesa Tactical rail and 8 shot saddle combo, which did not allow the forend to slide all the way back. My solution for this was dremeling a small rectangular piece of the forend to allow it to slide all the way back.
