Shotgun pistol grip for mossberg 590 series - Hogue Tamer Shotgun Pistol grip for Mossberg 500, 590, 835

I had to NOT recommend this shotgun pistol grip for one reason only. It was advertised, and even on the packaging for the grip, as being designed for the Mossberg 500, 590, and 835 series shotguns. I own a Mossberg 590 "Shockwave" 12 ga. shotgun. This pistol grip does NOT fit, nor is it designed for my shotgun. There seems to be some confusion about this with Optics Planet, and "Hogue" the manufacturer of the pistol grip. The online ad I saw for this grip indicated it DID fit my shotgun. And, on the packaging shipped to me from "Hogue" the well-known and respected maker of high-quality firearm grips of all types and sizes. Actually states, plainly and on the front of the packaging for THIS SPECIFIC shotgun pistol grip. That it is designed for the 590 Mossberg shotguns. However, when I looked at the directions on the Hogue packaging for installation of the grip. And at my shotgun it was obvious the grip would not fit.

So I called Hogue and asked them about it all. The Customer Service tech put me on hold while she checked with someone at the company about the situation. She then came back to me with the info that though the packaging plainly states it is for the 590 Mossberg series shotguns. It will NOT fit the "Shockwave" which is in the 590-model series.

I then contacted Optics Planet and advised them of my discovery. They indicated that the pistol grip is advertised, by them, as being for the "500" series of Mossberg shotguns! I had to tell them that I would not have purchased the grip if that was the case and that they should "re-check" their online advertising. Because it was due to their advertisement that I ordered the grip in the first place. In any event everything turned out OK for me. Optics Planet quickly sent me "return/refund" labels and information on how to return the grips. I did this immediately and am currently waiting on confirmation they received the grips, in the undamaged original packaging, I sent back to them.

So, bottom line in all this is the following. The above grips are impressive when received as are "Hogue" grips which I have used on other firearms for many years. They are made from superior materials, and of quality workmanship. I have no doubt they will fit Mossberg shotguns, i.e. this specific model of pistol grip, they are designed for specifically. And other Hogue pistol grips for shotguns of other brands, models, or styles will also work perfectly I have no doubts. And Optics Planet, a company I have never known of or dealt with before, was found to be excellent in Customer Service and to stock superior quality items and devices for firearm owners. Their fast, well packaged shipping of their products was also found to be superior. So, I am still an enthusiastic customer, I just ran into a small glitch with this particular purchase.

Recommendations; I suggest that "Hogue" remove the statement on the packaging for this item that indicates it is designed for 590 shotguns, unless they specifically, and in plain sight on the packaging, state it will NOT FIT THE 590 "Shockwave" model. I am sure that Optics Planet has made sure there is no ambiguity in their online ad for this item and/or what specific shotgun model/s it is designed to fit.
