As it came through the screw-hole in the grip of the gun, the screw was forced slightly off center to the threaded end of the brass grip nut. As a result, the threads could not be engaged. A small adjustment, with a very fine needle-end file, to very slightly enlarge the non-threaded end of the brass grip nut solved the problem.
