Chris Browning's Review of Holosun HE503CU 1x20mm 2 MOA Dot & 65 MOA Circle Red Dot Sight

**IMPORTANT**Fist off, I must say that the front lens IS SUPPOSED to be off-axis, as it has to be hand-aligned for the reticle to work properly. This is a noob fact that I sadly had to learn. I have seen others complain about this as well, thinking that the front lens was "pushed in," in a damaged way. THAT BEING SAID, I still had issues with two of these models in a row. During the front lens alignment, it appears that small imperfections, chips, and scratches appeared along the front "seal" area of the lenses. They have to glue them after alignment, and I would expect some micro imperfections, as evidence of the work. However, I felt that there was more damage than necessary, and not only was it visually unappealing, but I could see imperfections in the field of view when looking through the back of the sight, along the edge of the sight picture. BOTH times. I have never returned anything online EVER before ANYWHERE. I am not a complainer, or super picky. I had wanted this sight for almost a year, after seeing the clarity of the circle dot reticle in a local gun store. 2 MOA dots appear as blurry "starbursts" to me, as I have learned that the astigmatism I have been diagnosed with since childhood causes that - another noob fact I had to learn, after reviewing a red dot sight for this reason :P

The first return experience was amazing, and a lovely customer service rep sent out a replacement product before even receiving the defective one that they let me send back for free. BUT, when I had to call a second time, immediately after the second damaged sight arrived, the girl said she would have to speak with a manager higher up, and she sent me the standard email on how to do a return request form (the problem being is that you cannot use this for damaged items, and it says to contact them directly). I never heard anything back, and am slightly disappointed with this outcome. I am opting to return the sight directly to Holosun, through their warranty process. After sending pictures, they say that it does not appear to be up to their manufacturing standards, but they need to inspect it in person, so they are going to print me a return label. I hope all works out. I really do like the quality of the reticle, and I am a satisfied REPEAT customer with Optics Planet - I have actually placed more orders since this problem. I just wish the product quality after two tries had been better, and that maybe Optics Planet would have been a little better in helping me the second time :/ ...
Pros:
  • Clear reticle
Cons:
  • Visual imperfections
  • Chips and scratches
Would Recommend: Yes
