Most Helpful Positive Review precision loading
I used to take a case and cut a slit on the side of the neck, insert my bullet seated long and close the bolt which runs the bullet into the lands as far as it will go, hope the bullet does in the lands enough to pull it out of the case, measure the OAL with a comparator and establish my maximum OAL for that rifle / bullet combination. The Hornady OAL tool with the appropriate modified case make all of this much easier and I don't have to ruin a good piece of brass.
