Great product but very loud - Hornady RAPiD Gun Safe - 15.5" x 9" x 3.5" 98150

I first saw this product at the NRA convention in Indianapolis over a year ago and was impressed with it then. The first problem with this item was no one had any to sell and when they did @ $250.00 they were a little pricey. I have intended to purchase one all along but opted to wait for a price drop first. OP recently offered them for $204.00 with 2nd day air, shipping for free and the deal was finally too good to wait any longer. This product is similar to the older and discontinued Smith & Wesson versa vault with several improvements.
First off this safe utilizes RFID to gain access, or entry can be gained by a key or the use of a pre programmed code that the owner chooses. If the RFID method is used you can only have up to two sources programmed for use at one time. The unit comes with 3 bracelet's (sm,med,lg) a credit card and a key fob so versatility is perfect for virtually any user. Programming the unit is a snap, push a button swipe your method of choice and then verify that its programmed. Once the unit is programmed with RFID the safe will open in about 2 seconds.
The unit also comes with an AC plug and runs on 8AA batteries for back up in case of a loss of power. The unit does not ship with the AA batteries. Also included is a looped cable to tether the unit securely to furniture or for use in a vehicle. The safe will accommodate most full size pistols and a spare magazine.
The only fault I can find with this product is that it opens very loudly, and would likely be heard outside the room it is opened in. Other than that issue, and for home protection that's a significant one, it is well constructed and looks to be very durable. Lastly I wish that Hornady would have found a way to have it made in the USA instead of China, but all things considered its worth the price and if they address the noise its easily 5 stars.
