Best round for the money. IMO.

by Mitchell Long, from VA, United States Written on December 15, 2024
I purchased a Thompson center.45 cal six years ago. I've never used any other round for this gun. The reason for this is that Thompson uses the Hornady to test there rifles out to 200 yards. I figured if it worked for them I'd try it. So far nothing has walked away that I hit.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Tips need a deeper setter
Best Used for:
  • Deer/Black Bear/Hog Hunting
  • Deer/bear/ target

Since at least 2004

by Del, from TN, United States Written on November 19, 2021
I tried other bullet but the best "paper performance" was with these. Been using them on deer since at least 2004 (or so the big boy on the wall's brass plate says so. Deer, even hit correctly can run but these seem to stop and drop them unusually high percentage of the time. I have had some runners but big-bores work. They transfer energy well. I think the "big boy" could have been the first M/L buck of note. Cr@p for antlers but big and old. So much the taxidermist had to use a Mule Deer form for the neck - which is where I shot him. Didn't exit but he fell right there. I used 30gr purodex pellets back then. Could have been 90gr or 120gr. In my T/C Omega, groups open up at 150gr. The first batch were T/C Shockwave Sabots. 15/box. I couldn't find them so I ended up w/these. Same bullet. The color of the sabot and tip were different, box, bullet count, label too - but they work. This year's M/L buck was hit above the shoulder, 100 gr (2 50gr Purodex - can't find the 30s anymore) at about 35 yards, give or take, and fell right over. Bullet did exit. The tip comes off sometimes. It's 2021 now, so that's 17 years, more or less depending on when I started. Don't always take a deer with the Omega. (That aught to be long enough for OP's review people)
Pros:
  • Function just fine, load easy
Cons:
  • Some retailers are a little proud of them
Best Used for:
  • muzzleloaders

Muzzleloader bullets

by Mike, from SD, United States Written on November 22, 2020
Good accuracy. A bit hard to start down the barrel. Have not used on game yet. That will be the proof if they are worth buying. Just filling in extra words here so the survey will let me exit. Still won’t let me exit so more words here to get to the required amount of words that they deem sufficient to provide a review
