Awesome Reticle for a Micro Sight

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on October 10, 2016
Really great mini/micro red dot sight.

Lots of mounting options so whether you are looking to put it on a pistol, shotgun, etc there is a way to do so (with varying amounts of effort).

Rugged little optic that cut its' teeth on Glock slides so regardless of the platform you mount it upon it should hold zero.

I have mine on a Glock 35, mounted direct to the slide, and after 500+ rounds I still haven't had an issue.

Really nice optic, my only wish for improvement is a manual brightness control.

The Auto Brightness control works great everywhere except indoor ranges (shooting from dark into light).

That issue is not exclusive to this Mini/Micro Red Dot, happens with almost all auto brightness control models.

Burris fixed that when they went from Fast Fire II to Fast Fire III...wish JP would update the JPoint and do the same.

But otherwise, works great outdoors and indoors (in consistent lighting) so if you're range is outdoors or you plan to use it as home defense then it is good to go.

I plan to move mine from the Glock 35 to a Rem 870 in the near future since I shoot the Glock 35 indoors far more often than the Rem 870.

Shares the same mounting footprint as the Delta Point.

I have had the JP Circle Dot on my Glock 36 for almost a year (carry ever day). This thing is amazing. I had Briley mill the slide so it doesn't stick up so high. Why does no one else make a circle dot? I love it. I've never had a problem with wash out from being in a darker place and looking into ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Egg shaped
Reticle looked more like a tilted egg than a circle with a dot in the center. Other than that it works. On a side note, I give JP's customer service a 1 out of 5 stars. Tried to buy a mount for the dot straight from jp. They replied to one email then ignored the next three.

Not much to like

by JM, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on June 20, 2020
When I received my JPoint, first thing I noticed was that the box it came in looked excessively cheap for what is a fairly expensive red dot. May not sound like a big deal, but I've purchased optics at a much lower price point that had much better packaging. The second thing I found when I tried to mount it to my Springfield Hellcat was that it didn't come with mounting screws and the ones that are on the Hellcat holding the plate where the red dot is mounted weren't long enough for attaching it.The description of the item when I ordered it didn't mention this and if Optics Planet has screws that would fit, I couldn't find them. I had to order screws for it from Springfield. When I finally got the optic mounted and took it the range, I had difficulty with adjustments on it. I would shoot a group, adjust windage and elevation accordingly shoot another group and it would be completely off from where it should've been. Figuring that maybe the mounting screws were a little loose, I checked and was able to tighten them them down a little more. It was then I noticed what someone else had said in another rveiew, that the circle dot now looked egg shaped instead of round. I found it impossible to look at and aim like that so I ended up removing it and sending it back to Optics Planet for a refund.

Needs to be brighter

by WF, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 11, 2020
At night, and if there is any back light, The reticle cannot be seen at all. It automatically brightens or dims, so the operator cannot adjust it. At night the reticle is just too dim to see. The red dot is nice and sturdy, the instructions are clearly stated. It’s just not what I was expecting.

Problem with dot shutting down

by Jay, from CO, United States Written on December 24, 2018
Mounted on an MPX. Very small and light weight. However, the battery connection is questionable. The dot shuts down intermittently when firing rifle. Like the sight, when it works. Weird because JP makes great products. Installed their triggers in several AR’s.

Don’t do it man

by S, from AZ, United States Written on June 18, 2018
This thing uses a unique and incompatible mounting setup that is no longer in common usage. It is NOT compatible with industry standard RMR mounts and does NOT come with any mounting hardware. The product seemed otherwise fine. OpticsPlanet did a fine job fulfilling this order, but I do not recommend this product.

JPoint solved a couple of issues I had with RD pistol sights

by NoShootSherlock, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on May 22, 2017
I wasn't happy with a couple of "red-dots" I tried that I mounted on my Glock34 (9MM). The issues were: The "on-off" switches were push-buttons that really didn't indicate "on-off." That is, was it on, off or just not working as in a dead battery?; I couldn't always find the "dot," especially shooting toward the direction of the sun in bright sunlight.

JPoint solved both these issues with "always" on, auto-adjust on the brilliance and surrounding the dot with a outer ring of dots. It installed easily and was bore sighted quickly and close enough to use in a USPSA match the next day. It should only get better when I have a chance to actually bench sight it at the range.

Sounds Like a Nice Idea

by BeerMan, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on November 29, 2016
A circle with a dot in the center sounds like a great sight. However it needs a lot of work. In bright light, dots are to bright and smear/bleed together. Even in low light dots are to bright; they don't dim as instructions say. Even in total darkness, still bright. Company didn't answer email or take phone calls. Returned for Burris FastFire III.

Update on previous post

by SAPMaster, from ID, United States Written on February 1, 2016
Well, the sight base to fit my Ruger Mark III Hunter finally arrived. This base uses the dovetail of the rear sight (replaces the sight). It was a little tight - the gunsmith had to file it a bit then hammer it in with an aluminum drift. Be careful if you choose to do this yourself. The base is anodized aluminum and hard yet can be marred if the wrong drift is used.

Since the weather is cold and wet I went to the indoor range to sight in. Sighting was fast with a solid rest. The small dot in the middle of the circle is fast and easy to get on target over just the dot alone. I would think this would be a huge advantage in competition shooting.

My main attraction to this sight is I can use it without my bifocal contact lenses which are needed for computer use and likewise seeing the pistol sights, but they adversely affect distance focus. The sight base works well using the dovetail because it keeps the sight low to the bore and makes for a very simple and clean looking installation.

So far (at the range) it works wonderfully. I shot 1" groups with standard 22LR ammo out of my Mark III hunter at 8 -10 yards easily. I'm really looking forward to spring weather when the ground squirrels are out. I shot at those last year with open sights with my Ruger 22/45 at 10 to 50-plus yards, but the contacts make things fuzzy after about 15 yards. With this new JPoint I'm hoping things are clearer and shots much more accurate.

Final thoughts at this point: be aware that you must ...

Can't recommend because I can't use it - still waiting for the rest of the order

by SAPMaster, from ID, United States Written on January 16, 2016
I think this will really be a cool sight but so far all I've been able to do is hold it in my hand. I am still waiting for the base to mount it to the pistol. It's been 3 weeks since I place the order for both and only the sight has shown up.

I'll update this when I get a chance to actually try it out.
