Mikemo's Review of Kestrel 5700 Elite Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics with LiNK

First off all, the unit is not as hard to to understand and get up and running as some reviews have mentioned. I read the manual and watched the videos provided by Kestrel and within a day I had a basic understanding of the functions. I took it to the range and in an hour I had verified and trued my guns muzzle velocity out to 1100 yards. Two days later and at different range I made first round hits at 1280,1000 and 950 yards. My reservation stems from the inability of the AB software in the Elite to allow the user to enter a scope scale factor to account for the difference between the dialed elevation and the actual elevation derived from the tall target test. Just a half inch error at 100 yards results in a 5 inch error at 1000 yards. Brian Litz himself devotes several pages to the importance of inputting a scale factor to correct for this. When I found it was not addressed in the Elite I was/am very unhappy with my purchase. If your scope does not dial elevation perfectly, you have absolutely no way to compensate.
