Triton's Review of Kinetic Development Group Modular Receiver Extension, Compatible w/ all 7.62 & 5.56 SCAR Model
Let's face it, the factory foregrip for the SCAR leaves much to be desired. While the price for the KDG MREX seems a bit high, it turned out to be well worth it. The MREX significantly improves the feel of the SCAR while adding plenty of Mlok slots for easy addition of accessories such as bipods, vertical foregrip, tactical lights or designators, etc. I very much appreciated the smoothness of the finish and the flat-ish bottom of the MREX, which does not have the cheese grater feel of the factory picatinny rails but still allows for customization. Added weight is barely perceivable and seems to have improved the overall balance of the SCAR.
I also appreciated the incorporation of a QD sling mount attachment point on the MREX, and ended up purchasing KDG's rear QD attachment point as well to ensure versatile sling options. The MREX is well made and had no burrs or uneven edges. I reconfirmed sub-MOA accuracy on my SCAR using federal premium gold metal match ammo after installing the MREX, so it did not negatively affect accuracy.
Installation was not hard but requires a heat source to melt the factory thread sealants and a 2.5mm hex wrench in addition to the two torx wrenches that were included. For the price, it would have been nice for CDG to include the required 2.5mm hex wrench, though most people should already have this, but in my situation I was away from my tools when I did the installation. Likewise, requiring the user to watch a YouTube video instead of proving step by step instructions could be a nuisance to folks in places with spotty, slow, or no internet coverage.
All in all, the MREX was well worth it and I would highly recommend this as an upgrade to an already fantastic battle rifle platform. If you can fork out the money for the KDG buttstock upgrade and a Giessele Super SCAR trigger, you will have an unbeatable battle rifle and designated marksman rifle setup as long as you have appropriate optics. Well done, KDG, and keep the upgrades coming.
