Meisterschutze's Review of Kinetic Development Group OPMOD Sidelok Optic Mount

I've incorporated a couple of the KDG Sidelok mounts on my rifles. The purpose is to have flexibility of quickly releasing the optic and transitioning to BUIS if/when needed. Adding offset BUIS is not a practical option for LE application, IMHO. The KDG Sidelok mount is the ideal solution. My experience in delivering some hard use on the system is that these mounts remain solidly attached to the rails and deliver consistent repeatable zero when removing and reinstalling the optic. (Caveat - I've only tested repeatable zero out to 300m with NO deviation in point of impact (POA to POI) . . . so I'm well satisfied beyond 300m, within reason) KGD's craftsman ship is excellent, rivaling quick release cantilever mounts at much high price points. The attachment and release can be achieved single handedly and easily learned for low light/no light conditions. This is a huge advantage for the intended purpose environment/situation. The KDG design eliminates nearly all areas for some darn thing to snag on the mount. I have and will continue recommending the KGD Sidelok mount to my friends, colleagues, students, and my agency.
Pros:
  • Solid build and fit
  • Quick Release Design
  • Accurate Attachment Dimensions
  • Achieving Repeatable Zero
  • Streamlined Mount - No Snag
Cons:
  • Attachment mechanism may be susceptible to fine sand and grit
Best Used for:
  • 3 gun competition
  • Law Enforcement Patrol Rifle
