I installed this on a Galil 5.56 pistol, so I can't speak to other implementations. With my loads (21gr 4198 & 50gr bullets), it will not cycle even fully closed and the smaller aperture. No issues running with the stock piston. These come with two different adapters for the head (one for 7.62 and one for 7.62 that isn't cycling or 5.56). This will probably work fine for the 16" barrel but on the 8.3" barrel it's a no-go.
