I purchased the see through Kwik-Site scope mounts for a Marlin 45-70 with a 26 inch barrel to use with a Burris Timberline scope with it's one inch tube. The Kwik-Site see through mounts for my Remington 750 Woodmaster .270 worked flawlessly for 10 years with a Bushnell 6-24X50 Bushnell with an adjustable objective. The .270 used 130 and 150 grain bullets, so I trust Kwik-Site to perform the same with the 45-70, and I am not disappointed. 405 grain round nose flat points are used in the 45-70. The 45-70 receiver is flat topped, but the pictures of the mounts suggests that the mounts may be curved on the bottom, they are not and fit the pre drilled receiver holes exactly. The see through part of the mounts provide ample site picture of the Marlin's iron sites. I found that placing the scope part of both mounts forward of the see through part of the mounts provided the best eye relief for my preferences. I paint small index lines on the mounts and scope at horizontal and vertical positions and use medium locktite on the mount's base screws. Nothing has come loose after 30 to 40 rounds of scope alignment, your shoulder can only take so much of the recoil from this beast, unless you have someone else shoot the beast for you. As always, Optics Planet order and delivery process is painless, unlike other on line retailers that surprise you with cost over runs in the checkout process. Also, I have never had a problem with Optics Planet on the rare occasion of an item return.

These rings do adequately allow for the use of the iron sites. They mount securely. I did find the hex screws somewhat difficult to thread into the receiver. The screws were difficult to keep straight when trying to start them. They could be a little deeper to allow the supplied hex wrench the ability to hold them straight.
