Great alternative to the military small arms laser system
Having extensive use with the military versions, this is a smaller version with nearly identical controls. After only one night shoot to set the unit up, it performs just as we'll as anything I've deployed with, with one exception.
The LED IR illuminator gives off a visible red light that, while very narrow, can give away your position to a potential enemy.
Pros: Compact, easy to adjust, powerful lasers
Cons: Red light from illuminator, price
dbal d2 green laser
It may be heavy but the led illuminator and green laser are hands down the best. And only paying $1299.00 isn’t bad
Pros:
- Price and durability
Cons:
- None

Big and Useful, great device!
Steiner DBAL-D2 is big for sure but is great. Arm day will be every day with this on the end of your rifle and it seems there are cheaper alternatives hitting the market in 2025, but you can't go wrong with this. I added a LEAF sight and VWS diffuser to make it rock and roll ready. Modbutton with crane plug up front and I'm ready to own the night.

Exactly what I expected
I haven’t had the opportunity for an OPTEST yet, but product was exactly how it was described in my research. I have an Aimpoint compM4 with mount and the D2 co-witnesses standard AR front sight. Lower 1/3 obstructed but can still sight in. The size is not over exaggerated… it’s HUGE! I have a 16in barrel and it still takes up a lot of rail.

Pretty sick
It's pretty sick. Seems like the best bang for your buck for civilian lasers/illuminators. Some people say that the dial settings are hard to figure out, I disagree. Just read the manual. You will probably only ever use 2 or 3 of them anyways. Best paired with your PVS-14s or dual tubes if you're rich, which if you are you're probably not buying one of these.
Pros:
- value
- Ease of use
- Function
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Nighttime shenanigans

Best civilian laser for the cost
Watch any video on this laser and you'll be sold. Day or night this laser will be visible and you'll be hitting shots without trying
Pros:
- Quality
Cons:
- Large
Best Used for:
- Day and night passive aiming

Steiner DBAL-D2
Best unit for the money by far. Great product, a bit chunky but nothing you can't handle. Amazing service from Optics Planet as always.
Pros:
- Just about everything about it.
Cons:
- Larger than some IR /Laser units

Solid Beefcake
This module has a great illuminator that is significantly more powerful than the A3. Unit locks up tight and holds zero.

This has been a Game Changer
This has become an essential part of my rifle. The DBAL is quality made and doesn’t feel like other Laser/IR devices that I’ve used in the past. It’s solid, the mounting system is robust and easy to use. The laser is bright enough to utilize during daytime training but truly shines when the sun goes down (pun intended). It’s made my appreciate my night vision even more. The IR Illuminator is next level, the IR laser is perfect, the pressure pad is very tactile and responsive and it makes shooting under nods a breeze. Zeroing wasn’t difficult and the dial is very user friendly. I like the size of it and even though it is bigger than other products on the market, it still left room for me to mount my white light on the rail below it. I’ve watched several YouTube videos of people comparing this DBAL to others on the market and this particular one always landed on top of those lists. It performs exceptionally and does EVERYTHING I need it to do and more. This purchase was a no brainer for me and I am so happy I decided to add it to my arsenal.
Pros:
- Price
- bright
- user friendly
- Built and finish
- Ease Of Use
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Shooting with Night Vision

Solid Unit with some cons
The DBAL D2 is far superior in terms of capability compared to the DBAL A3. With the addition of a Villain Weapons Light diffuser it performs very well in CQB scenarios. Cons are that it is big and that the IR Illuminator can not be adjusted for windage/elevation which in my case puts my aiming laser down and to the right of center on the IR beam.
